I'm 26 and honestly don't know a single person, who isn't in the music industry apart from myself and I own both, who uses wired headphones. It's all bluetooth because it's easiest for working out.
I guess my mom has some? She's like 55.

Ill stick with my Jaybird that cost 150 and last over 9 hours. I'm sure they have better quality too than these airpods

I'm almost 35. I own 2 or 3 different sets of bluetooth headphones as well as bluetooth speakers. I also happen to walk around a college campus every day. And, 99% of the people I see that are 17-20 walking around are wearing wired headphones.
I just returned from Las Vegas and a tech conference with over 23,000 people attending. 99% of the people I saw with headphones were wearing wired headphones. On a subway? yep. airplane? yep. bus? yep. Nearly every person I see everywhere wears wired headphones.
I do agree with you in one thing. I'm shocked Apple included the adapter for free.

I use wireless headphones for working out but still keep a pair of wired handy in case I forget to charge

I'm not saying people don't OWN wired headphones, because like I said earlier, I have a pair of wired Sennheisers and a bluetooth set of Beats for working out.
I just don't know anyone who has any problem using bluetooth headphones or let alone, doesn't own a pair.
Maybe it's just because I'm younger, I don't know.
