Apple control freak developers drive me nuts

WTF is the problem with Apple maps.
First thing I always do after putting in location is to scroll around the map to get an idea of what my next few turns look like or even pinch zoom to the destination to see it.
When my wife is running the navigation and using Apple maps I can't do shite. I try to scroll or zoom out and Apple says frick YOU PESANT. YOU CAN LOOK AT WHAT'S AROUND YOU RIGHT NOW.
I JUST WANT TO frickING SCROLL THE MAP
ETA When this happens I want to beat the fricking thing on the ground

their map used to be decent but it is absolute trash now.

You're obviously doing it wrong. Just tried it on mine and I can scroll all the way to fricking China if I wanted

Why you not use Waze?!
Lately I've been plugging in my destination to Waze, turning on voice alerts only, and then plugging it into Apple maps so I don't have to look at the terrible Waze UI, but still get the traffic alerts.

There are people that don't at least default to Google Maps? Also it's already been said but use Waze.

Waze is all I use. But sometimes I'm with the wife and she uses her iPhone to pull up a destination and gets pissed off I second guess her by pulling out my phone.
I try to play asking and grab her phone to check out the directions and just get pissed off.

I just tried it after I set the destination and I could zoom out. It stopped once I zoomed out to see multiple states at once.

i just put in my directions to work and was able to scroll down to Paraguay.

I'm guessing this is an Apple nanny state "feature" because it happens 100% is the time when we're driving.
I'm guessing y'all are doing this sitting in the living room not actually moving.

Just did it on my way to work, still works the same. Maybe you need to update the iOS or something because you can absolutely do what you're complaining about not being able to do.
