Mine just heated up big time got what I would consider extremely hot, I have a pro max I really wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. Didn’t think anything of it but I was telling my wife about it and she said her phone has done it twice since update and she has a pro. Just curious to see if this has happened to anyone else, restarted the phone and seems to have stopped.

Yes. Occasionally noticed my Pro getting noticeably hot.

I have the pro max and havent had any issues. Any particular environment this has happened in? Indoors/outdoors?

Happened to me indoors just doing normal browsing. I always have brightness turned up and wife has it turned down so I don’t think that was the cause, it just got melty hot all of a sudden was weird. The only thing that’s different from normal is I installed a wi-if 6e mesh system in my house yesterday but the phone is capable of that so I don’t see that being the issue either.

It just works. That's all I know.

You likely just had a run away app in the background, didn't set to idle properly. It happens, and has happened for generations of iOS, and I imagine most other mobile OS. If you notice it happening, just force close a few apps until you find it, or restart like you did. Not a big deal, outside of instances like traveling where the battery drain might be an issue.
