Great price but both the Viewsonic projectors you mentioned are not 1080p HD. They are WXGA. Huge difference in resolutions.

I haven't used it outside, but I recently (2 weeks ago) purchased a BenQ HT2050. Read tons of reviews and had it down to BenQ vs. Epson. Most of the reviews I read said that BenQ hit it out of the park with the 2050. It is the perfect balance between big budget features and bare bones essentials. I chose DLP over LCD because I use it for sports and DLP handles the motion much better than LCD. I set it up for the first time for the Masters and it was amazing.

I would go LCD over DLP at this point. I think DLP is all but done.

Why is the epson 3500 double the price?
superior video processor, superior optics. Superior design to handle heat. Superior power supply and lamp design.

You may as well ask why does a Jaguar cost more than a Toyota. Sure,. a Toyota will work, but that Jag will out perform it in all key areas.

I wanted to bump this thread and see what recommendations are for an outdoor projector that I can use outside in New Orleans (humidity) but mainly for football season on the weekends.

It'd be under a screened in porch but I'd bring it inside after the weekends. Also, I have 2 wireless bluetooth UE Megaboom speakers that I'd love to wirelessly sync to the projector as well to play the sound from outside.

Any recommendations for those that are ~500$ or so dollars?

I hear ya but the humidity will rape a tv in new orleans. A buddy of mine has gone through 3 cheap Samsungs just the past 2 summers.
I like the idea of the portability with a projector so that I could even take it on trips to football games.

A simple projector in a protective case + a screen I can carry in 1 hand is much easier to lug around drunk on weekend at Bama than a 42inch screen is.
