Most important thing is to truly understand the basics and build a really good foundation

Recommendations on topics to learn this from a beginner perspective? Ie. My company gives us a lynda.com acct, so what are good topics to search that are current, but also ones that will fill in the foundation I may not have picked up.

Im on the business/process side of things. I need to learn how to better communicate what i'm needing to make sure the highly tech/cyber-security types understand what I'm needing when speaking with the legal types, etc etc.

I understand our business, but with GDPR, facebook hearings, etc I'm needing to be proactive trying to understand where we are going.

Im getting tired of being the guy with a spidey sense, but can't put my finger on it better. All looking at me like I'm crazy. Then a year later things are "discovered" by others, and I'm like "please see the attached email from last year where I brought this up, and no one thought it was a problem."

Most of the jobs around here are similar. It's ridiculous.

now all that being said, the position he posted is about as entry level as you can get in cybersec. throw in a little OT and that's $50k a year at the high hourly rate. with high schools and colleges pumping out kids with some cyber security knowledge, that's not too bad for them...

my first cybersec job paid me a good bit more than that, but I also had 10 years of other relevant technical IT experience....

Required to get my CISSP for my job. Any suggestions on best ways to prepare for this exam? Took a CISSP boot camp and tested not long afterwards as that was what was suggested to us by the instructor. Needless to say, I didn't pass.

I've been doing some reading, and think Cyber security would be an interesting field to dabble in, potentially make a career change.

Anyways, looking for somewhere to start. Any good forums, blogs, etc out there that anyone would recommend?

FWIW, I am not in the technology field currently. This would be a cold turkey jump for me.
Why is this how I picture you?

My method:

Bought the Eric Conrad CISSP Study Guide. Read it cover to cover. Highlighted which areas I thought I needed more study in.

Got the Shon Harris gigantic tome (CISSP All in One Study Guide). Used that to study up on the areas I highlighted I was weak in. Did this for three months.

I had a strong networking and systems background though, so your study time may take longer.
