Anyone figure out how to get it back to the way it was before? the tricks i've used in the past aren't working.

I just switched to Kiwi.
The scroll tabs was pretty much the ONLY reason I used Chrome on Android.

I feel like it's been changed for a good while now. Maybe the pixel users get the updates way ahead of other android users? Idk

I thought I was going crazy for not having the "new update" he was talking about. Sure, it was weird at first but I actually like it now.

until yesterday's update i've been able to follow the thread on this board to switch it back.
after yesterday's update i'm stuck with the new shittiness.

Then Brave went with the grid so I went back to Chrome and tried to get used to it. It's been a while now and it still sucks for me. It's just nowhere near as fluid. I like to drag down from the address bar, and then I'm in swipe up/down mode and the old style just works so smoothly. The grid is jarring for me... I pull down and then I have to hunt and peck. It's hard to tell similar tabs apart being so small.

I think the vertical scroll with nearly full size tabs is the pinnacle of mobile browsing, it's like they changed it for the sake of change. So now I'm on Kiwi.

I like this layout better, I've had it for a while.
What I can't stand is the tab "grouping." Idk if you've gotten that update yet. Essentially if it thinks a window you're opening needs to be grouped with the tab you're currently in it puts it in a "box" with that tab and you have to switch from this tiny taskbar at the bottom of your screen.
So if you're used to opening a new tab and going to the tab switcher it gets you nowhere. You have to go back to the tab group you were in then select the window you wanted. It's dog shite.

It's fricking terrible. Like who thought that was a good idea? I could somewhat handle the grids. Not my favorite layout, but whatever, I could get used to them. The tab groups is just too much, though. There is no rhyme or reason to it. I've tried every which way to revert back and it keep re-reverting itself to the new tab groups.

I get the logic, some people keep a shitload of tabs open and they need organization. My wife (no pics) probably has over 100 tabs open right now.
But website organization is a long-solved problem: BOOKMARKS. Have people forgotten that you can do that? Has Google forgotten that you can do that? It would seem so seeing as how shitty bookmark management is with mobile chrome. If they would work on that, and add the "open all" in a folder feature found on desktop browsers, nobody would need to keep 100 tabs open.
The only improvement to vertical scroll tab management that I would care to see is the addition of a concept of "workspaces". Similar to grouped tabs, except they don't have to get shrunk down to shite and require a bunch of tapping around to find. It already does this when you go incognito, just expand the concept to an arbitrary number of workspaces. Simple.

This seems like a big deal to people, but i guess i don't get it.
It's just website tabs.

For some people it's just website tabs, for others of us it's a step backward and a waste of time.
It doesn't flow. Creating tabs groups is awkward. Some controls are at the top, others at the bottom. If you have several tabs from the same site in a group, the icons are useless because they're all the same. The two column grid is awful because when you close a tab, all the ones below it switch columns and you have to wait for the animation to finish before you can tap one of them.
It's like frick everything we know about small touchscreen usability to accommodate people who don't know about bookmarks and/or because we don't feel like making bookmark management usable.

Yours too huh?
My browser flipped to grid last week (Pixel 4a 5G) after months of me having forced the scroll method. As others said, can't override it now. Seeing if I can get used to it or not before maybe switching.
I did override tabbed groups. frick that shite it's terrible.
