Or, simply how to add another set of speakers.

The project is the back porch. I have one set of outdoor speakers out there hooked up through a volume control. We are very happy with the set up. OTOH, we are covering the patio, and I'd like to add a second set farther out on the porch. I would always want all 4 playing the same thing.I really don't understand impedance/ohms etc. I can tell you the products I plan to use if that helps. So, is there a volume control designed for 2 pairs? Just run them in parallel? Other solution?

If you are going to run the speakers with an amp or receiver, then buy a receiver or amp with 4 channels. This will accommodate 4 speakers. Usually is a set of speakers on an A channel and a set on B channel. Most amps and receivers make it to where you can listen to each channel independently or all together.

Yes

I have run similar setups a number of times. If they’re the same speakers, expect awfully similar volumes and just get a simple switch rather than independent volume control, assuming you want similar volumes at the two locations. This is a 4-channel selector with volume. There is a 2-channel selector from Monoprice, but it is out of stock on Amazon currently. It’s not particularly special- search the right words and you’ll find a handful of others similar to it.

If you don’t need independent volume control, just buy a simple impedance-matching selector switch.

If you want independent on/off that are app-controlled, Audio Flow makes a switch that should take care of that, but there are no volume controls on it. Not currently available on Amazon, but I think it’s around $140 whereas a “dumb” push-button, no-volume speaker selector switch is going to start in the $20 range.

If you want app-controlled independent volume controls, you’re looking at an expensive product that I have never found outside of Sonos in anything that resembles affordable to the class of people I know and love. The app-controlled speaker selector above is actually pretty new to me (within the last two years). I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but I’ve wanted something like it a dozen or more times in the past before settling on different solutions

I am already using a selector as the house has speakers all over. I just want to add another pair to the patio from the existing run out there.

That would be wiring in series. When you wire in series each successive pair of speakers down the line plays quieter than the pair in front of it in the line.

If you have enough power just use an impedance match volume control. They cheap.

LINK

Put an arylic on each pair and call it a day. Control everything through your phone.

Nevermind-I misunderstood a product description.

First question, what do you have to power them? Do you have/plan to get a receiver?

Will the speakers be the same or will the second set be different?

Would you be happy with them all at the same volume or do you want to independently adjust the volume of each set?

If you have the make and model of any equipment you plan to use list it/them.

Existing receiver is a Pioneer 140wx5. From there I have a 4 way selector. One set of wires go to a volume control on the patio then to a pair of Klipsch outdoor speakers. Pretty sure the same models are available at a local store, and plan to get another pair. While it would be nice to control volume separately, not being able to would not be terrible.

I had a local place come by and take a look. They said I could either install two separate controls on the porch, or run an extra pair from the single(I get series and parallel confused). I asked for options and proposals. Going with new cable run from receiver area to two separate controls with all new wiring, then 4 new speakers. Price seemed worth it, as I've heard these speakers at a neighbor's, and they sound better than my bargain Klipsch. I still can't believe no one makes a single volume control with two knobs designed for two pairs of speakers.

Roofing material is in for the cover-pumped about the new back patio.

That single volume control would require two sets of four wire speaker pairs. I can’t believe no one makes a volume control for this rarely used application.

Yes, I’m being sarcastic.

I would think it's fairly common.

Installer is coming this Friday. I am counting on one pair of speakers in the traditional spot against the house under the original porch ceiling facing out to the back yard. I want the second set out toward the end of the 3 sided patio. The guy said he would find the nearest joist or beam to the outer support beams of the new porch cover. Which way should the second pair face? Each other, or back towards the house?

Hook the up and test what sounds best before he mounts them.

Towards the house. Don't place speakers firing directly at each other.

Check out Niles speaker switch with volume controls. These are low tech, but just work, and don't require a degree in rocket surgery. I've had one in my house for 20 years without issues.

That's pretty cool. May look at that if/when I ever replace my current selector.
