disinterested parties don't care about results. they care about aesthetics (whatever their aesthetics may be). and sometimes even interested parties care about aesthetics! (see: UF football fans and Will Muschamp, Real fans and Jose)
you may get tired of it, but it's a legitimate discussion to have and it isn't going away any time soon.

Personally, I'm tired of all this "park the bus" talk. It's all just tactics. There's no right or wrong way to play the game. It's a results-based business, and different coaches have differently philosophies on how to get the job done. A good coach will often adapt their philosophy based on their personnel and what they are up against. If a team wants to set up defensively, it's your responsibility to break them down. If you can't do it, you don't deserve to win. No matter how much possession you have.
If you look at their stats they would say otherwise that they park the bus.

It's not that I feel the discussion is illegitimate. I just don't like the terminology being used. It's the way that defensive tactics are being discredited with the term "park the bus", as if it is some invalid way to play the game. If a team wants to set up defensively, it's their prerogative. And I find it just as aesthetically pleasing to watch two different philosophies collide, where on team sets up defensively and another attempts to break them down. Not everyone will have the personnel to line up and play a free-flowing, wide-open style all the time.

This is correct.
I don't give a damn if you want to admit it or not. Real and Chelsea had VERY SIMILAR game plans. Real is MUCH better suited for the counter given their current players and some of you dumb motherfrickers completely discount that. Yeh, Chelsea's "park the bus" and counter style isn't as effective as Real's. Don't you think that has something to do with BBC and di Maria not to mention Carvjal (who was amazing btw) vs Chelsea's crew?

Totally different. UF fans are mad because UF is terrible. RM fans are mad because they are retarded when it comes to Jose.

On the idea level yes they were similar but the execution was different. Real's attacking players didn't defend nearly as deep as Chelsea's, thus making them much more efficient on the counter. I can't think of a good reason to ever ask Hazard to run toward his own goal to track a runner, as that's not what he's good at.

there was a large chunk of UF fans who didn't like him when we were very good the year before. (me included)

sure, the majority of their matches they do not park the bus because they are playing much weaker clubs. that skews any season stats you look at.
no one dislikes defending and counterattacking. hell, dortmund and napoli were soccer darlings the past few years based on that approach (though both played with different styles and tactics within the broader umbrella of counterattacking). what upsets some people is the extracurricular activity which his teams participate in while also using this tactic (those clasicos were terrible, terrible matches to watch) and the level at which he plays in that method with the vast resources which have been handed him at his last 3 (4 if you count chelsea twice) jobs.

Why is it when Real Madrid play defensive/counter attacking football against Bayern it's brilliant but anytime Chelsea are involved we have to talk about a bus and in Brendan Rodger's case 2 buses?
Did you see the results of the Bayern/Real tie compared to the Chelsea/Atletico tie?

Hypo: You're a manager; you have to play counterattacking football, or the board fires you. You have a choice between the following players in your midfield, who do you choose to get the result?
Ronaldo or Hazard
Bale or Willian
Di Maria or Ramires
Modric or Schürrle
Benzema or Torres/Ba/Eto'o
Isco or Oscar
IMO the results are merely the consequence of Real having vastly superior options in their attacking positions.

He was certainly asked to do a lot more than CRon or Bale. That's why the latter two were so much more effective.
Hazard is frustrated because he's not being utilized correctly. I can't blame him.

Ok, so let's say Terry's header isn't beautifully saved by Courtois, Luiz's header hits the post and goes in, and Hazard finishes a 1 v 1 with the keeper. That's 4 goals. All a manager can do is give his team a chance to be successful, he can't take the chances for them. Real has better players who took their chances, Chelsea didn't.

Where is the outrage toward Pep? Barca more than played their part in those disasters.
And maybe you missed the last one but it was just the same, where is the condemnation toward Carlo?

He's frustrated because his teammates in the attack aren't good enough and he has to do everything by himself. That's not his fault or the managers.
