While the English Premier League is the highest profile league, I find the Bundesliga and La Liga (Spain) more entertaining to watch.
Personally, I think German football is the best in the world right now.
The MLS is not on par with any European league, but will be soon. As more and more high profile European players come over here, our marketing base expands and the demand for apparel increases, allowing MLS teams to offer contracts that are competitive with larger, more established leagues.
Additionally, the slow decline of basketball and the eminent demise of American football (don't laugh. lawsuits are going to put a fast end to it. bank it.) will increase the speed at which the youth of America switch to soccer with serious intentions. Imagine if some of our great superstar athletes had played soccer... In the coming generations, they will.

I don't know much about European leagues outside the big 4, but I find it hard to believe that there isn't at least one country's league that the MLS isn't better than.

Also, you should know that in spite of its rampant corruption and this board's rush to undervalue it, Serie A is as good as it gets and is in contention for the most entertaining league in Europe. Everyone involved (players, coaches, fans) is crazy or racist or both.

I think the MLS's parity gives us a leg up on some of the worse European leagues. Our best team may not win the other league, but I think our worst teams can be much better than the lower end of those leagues.

Each number is the ranking for the last 5 seasons, the largest number at the end is the total for the last 5 seasons. Bundesliga was "best" last year with 17.928 coefficient points, Spain second with 17.714, England third with 16.48.

I find it hard to believe that the MLS wouldn't be at least in the middle of all those teams that are on that list.

I think popular opinion is that most MLS clubs would do very well in the second division of the "Big 4" but once they move to the first, it's more of a disparity. The best MLS team every year would probably hold their own so to speak, not going to qualify for Europe, but doubt they would battle relegation. It's also complicated further by the fact that said MLS club would have more money in the first division of those leagues than the MLS, so naturally one would expect them to do better than what it would seem at face value. If you just throw them into the league without the added revenue however, I still think the best clubs avoid relegation.

For the record, I was assuming the "big" European leagues. It doesn't mean shite for the MLS to be as good as a team in the SPL, or be able to compete in the 2nd division of one of the big leagues.
However, after watching the the progression of American soccer at the youth level, I fully expect our MNT's and the MLS to be relevant on the world stage very soon. I recently watched a local U-14 select game, and was completely blown away by how much better they were on the ball then our equivalent teams were just 15-20 years ago.
