With the MLS being only about 17 years old, I think we are doing pretty well compared to many European leagues.

But it's true. If you told me that the MLS would outdraw the NBA and NHL when the league started I would tell you you were insane.

The MLS doesn't need to compete on the level of European leagues for the U.S. to be competitive on the world stage. It just needs to exist so that U.S. players have a chance to play. The mere existence improves the quality of the player pool.

That said, the true comparison to make is to the J-League and the K-League, who started their professional leagues at around the same time as the MLS, though they are both slightly older. All three leagues have done rather well in attendance and in producing good players. Japan might be the best poised for success, as they've had a better youth system in place for longer than the U.S. has, and has produced some very technical players who are now beginning to be picked up by top teams.

The rise of their national team has been meteoric.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited about the MLS going forward. As I stated earlier, I believe both the MLS and the MNT are poised for greatness. All of my posts simply give my opinion on the CURRENT state of affairs. Seems like some folks go out of their way to find an argument.

This MNT is leaps and bounds better than Cobi jones & alexi lalas squads. That's all you can ask for is to show improvement and be better than your predecessor
