You don't hear a lot of these guys complaining about LSU being narrowly ahead with little time remaining and we're just running the ball every single play, waiting the 40 second game clock out, and then punting on 4th down to waste as much time as possible.
I mean are we comparing something that is completely legal in the rules of college football to something that is illegal in soccer? Is this what we are doing here?
Running the clock down according to the rules of the game is completely different than illegally doing things to waste time.

Most of what people are complaining about is perfectly legal. The part that wasn't was called and a card was given. What more do you want?

I mean, this is just a really petty criticism. It happens in every game and the ref can add time if it's particularly egregious. Don't like it, pressure the ball.

And the player in question was punished according to the rules of the game when he actually committed and infraction worth punishing.

It's a strategy to close out a game. If I'm in that situation I'll do it 11 times out of 10 and not give a frick while I move on to the world cup final.
Exactly. You aren't in sports to make friends. You are there to win.

There has to be some accountability from someone other than the official with regard to time wasted, because it varies so much from league to league and official to official.
I don't mind this though because of the flow/tone/tempo of each game is different.

A meaningless yellow card is not really a punishment there.

So you'd give him a red?
He was punished according to the rules, even if you think it was meaningless.

Giving the ball to Belgium and putting Mbappe on yellow is absolutely punishment. It took away his ability to waste more time and gave possession to Belgium. Anything more would be an overkill punishment.
I ask this with zero sarcasm, have you ever played the game?

If the US did this to win the match to go to the final of the WC not one of these people would be complaining.
Posted on 7/10/18 at 4:51 pm to Senora Ramos
It's honestly no different than when football players lay on top of players to keep them from setting up during a running clock. Gamesmanship happens in all sports. Mbappe was a count once and got a yellow for it.

I understand all of that and my issue is that I think there should be stronger punishments for players embellishing injuries and egregiously doing shite like that during stoppage time. That’s what the rules are, but maybe the rules should change so you have a more exciting end of game experience.

Salute to the boys from Belgium.
I guess Thierry is in the locker room changing kits.
Should be a good final no matter who they face (ie Croatia)

Perhaps Belgium should have pressured instead of letting France run down the clock. There's been plenty of drama and excitement in stoppage time. Hell, Belgium did it vs Japan barely a week ago. Why should they be rewarded for basically accepting defeat?

Belgium is only famous for chocolates and child abuse, and they only invented the chocolates to get to the kids.

If I grew up on a farm and was retarded, Bruges might impress me. But I didn't, so it doesn't.

Ding ding ding.
Icing kickers, kneeling, rushing plays only, playing the base stealing back and forth, throwing automatic balls to put yourself into an advantageous batting situation, bunting, etc. Plenty of strategies to stop what would be considered "Real play," to control the game better. Time wasting is soccer's.
