Yeah we pay Arsene a shite ton. Im not worried about affording a replacement.

If we dont get Klopp, de Boer, or Martinez then i want Arsene to stay. But i just feel like the writing is on the wall.

I would actually be down for this.

I don't think the writing is on the wall. It was obvious that new signings were needed but we couldn't get replacements. Wenger will probably be able to determine when he leaves. It would be very silly for him to leave when for the first time in 8 years he has money to spend, a lot more money than he usually has had.

If he leaves, Klopp, Tuchel, Spalletti, Bielsa, Garcia, Montella, De Boer, among others would be likely targets while I wouldn't be surprised if we got firm refusals from Brendan Rodgers and Roberto Martinez first.

It's not just signings, but his tactics this season have been, far too frequently for my tastes, absolutely atrocious.

Only basically four games, where we've given up nearly half our goals. Part of this is accommodating Mertesacker and Arteta in the same side. TV5 isn't good enough, so we have to play a weird hybrid defense which tries to hide the lack of pace of both those players. These same tactics lead us to being extremely good in the 2013 calendar year. Teams now understand the way to destroy us is to put pressure on Arteta, who isn't positionally skilled enough to deal with all that's being thrown at him. He's been stubborn for a long time, but the tactics are really an extension of the need for an elite CB and DM, which we haven't had for a long time. He's been poor in the transfer market, as he really can't be the bargain hunter anymore. If we are to play the way we have been, we need to upgrade Mertesacker and Arteta.

i would disagree on the only four games part. we weren't playing great consistently, even with everyone healthy. we were fortunate in a number of matches and it caught up to us. many pointed out the limitations of the 5 CM and Giroud sides that we used early. though we were largely forced into that by injury, he stuck with it. i would also say his overplaying of players is a tactical error that has cost us long term.

Well the 5 CM thing was basically because we had no wingers. Podolski doesn't play like a winger, Gervinho was sold, Walcot and Ox hurt, so it was mostly out of necessity. And while we weren't playing great we were winning and grinding out games and getting results. He has been tactically naive in the second half of this season, but this whole team seems tired. The season has played out like all the others, except for the fact that the disappointment is more severe because we led for 120 days. Nonetheless, whoever is in charge next year has to buy a bunch of players. At least 5 or 6.

Yeah we havent been good enough this year down the stretch. Just in wengers expression it seems like he is done. He could have gone for it, subbed ramsey and ox in at half and we could have gotten back into the game. Instead he was just content on playing sluggish. Guess the wigan match will tell a lot.

considering the amount of players we've given extensions too, i'm not sure 5 or 6 is going to be feasible, unfortunately, unless we get a new manager.

Well I think it's interesting we haven't given extensions to Arteta, which means we will have to buy a CM. Then we need an RB, a CB, a ST, and a winger. Those are just needs that have to be filled. I don't see any way we don't buy a lot of players this summer.

No doubt Arsenal have been ravaged by injuries but a lot of blame has to go to Wenger as well. As mentioned earlier throwing out way too many midfielders and Giroud is just ridiculous, especially when there's zero pace in the side. The offense is predictable and incapable of scoring goals. Arsenal have only scored 4 goals four times this season, two of those being in FA Cup matches.

I don't think Mert is the problem, he's been fantastic this season imo considering what's being asked of him. I'm pretty sure he leads in minutes by a considerable margin over Giroud. Arteta is done and needs to be replaced immediately. Arsenal are just incredibly predictable and just load up on midfielders, it's very easy to prepare for them and Arsene hasn't done much to try and change tactics. It's frustrating but Arsenal needs to look very closely at what has happened at Old Trafford.

We don't have wingers and are desperate for width, yet Ox plays centrally and Gnabry doesn't play.

Also, I don't buy the argument about our tactics conforming to a lack of depth at CM and CB. Sure, that's the case, but you don't say "oh I have a weakness here let's just deal with it," no you should probably tailor your side to eliminate that weakness, ie not playing Arteta so far back, especially with another slow CM, or playing a high line. That's the biggest wtf.

It was tailored. What system do you think we were running after Bayern Munich in 2013? After the new year it basically fell apart because the athlete next to the DM, either Wilshere or Ramsey, got hurt. We've played like shite in March, since Wilshere got hurt, which is to show that our system relies on a mobile B2B player next to the DM. That's not to say our problems didn't exist before Wilshere got hurt. Our spacing is all wrong, which was exploited badly by Liverpool, and we've been in a mental tailspin since that game.

Let's not act like the amazing form of 2013 should be wiped away. Other teams have just figured it out and we don't have the players to cover for it. What exactly should Wenger do? If Koscielny is injured for a while, we simply do not have the players to cover the problem areas. Ramsey will run his arse off, but he can't help us hold the midfield if he is our only option at penetrating the defense. We have to grind out these last couple of games and hope that Everton drop points. That's basically our only option until Ozil and Koscielny return.

That's the problem. He is 2nd behind Ramsey with 3.2 tackles a game. We rely too much on an aging midfielder for defense.

Agreed. Arteta was a stop gap signing after losing Cesc. He has been of great service to the club. But, his time is done.

I think it's more what the others were saying about a mix of young and old. Barry is doing just fine at a similar role. The only difference is that McCarthy has been by his side practically every game this year.
