We’ve made improvements to developments of our players. But can we do what’s necessary to get more kids involved?

We already have.

The residency program is gone. Now it's all about getting the proper coaches into the MLS youth academies, youth development is an early stage right now, but it's in a good stage.

There are plenty of kids involved. It’s the #1 youth sport in the country. The problem is the wealthier kids are the ones playing at the elite level and getting better coaching, not necessarily the best kids.

Yea problem is there isn’t enough

And they are spread out and don’t reach all portions of the country

Thus leaving kids in certain parts of the country with pay to play as their only option

As in other parts of the world there are so many clubs up and down the pyramid it covers everywhere

Regional finishing schools like France does would be cool. Our expansive geography poses some issues.

Every MLS club having one is definitely a step in the right direction

But our professional system of franchises just doesn’t cover enough overall territory with free academies

FC Dallas has a massive set up and even then it’s not free for everyone at all levels

US fails to recruit or otherwise train ATHLETES. There is a reason we don’t have the Jimmy and the Joes. Those guys are playing American Football or are playing multiple sports and a youth soccer coach won’t put him on the premier team bc he plays multiple sports. We need bigger, stronger, faster athletes that can move laterally and push through physical play. No offense to you soccer boys, but it’s the truth. This is my once very two year rant on this board. I keep saying the same thing and all y’all laugh. I have watched youth soccer for a long time. Multiple sport athletes who are bigger, faster , and stronger get kept down over kids who are “devoted” to soccer. They are devoted for a reason—-bc they aren’t good enough athletes to play any other sports.

Meanwhile —-the best athletes in the rest of the world play soccer. That is a fact and why we continue to lose. It’s also why Pulisic can’t even start in Chelsea, but is a legend on this board. Until the soccer die hard and people who control youth soccer recognize this we won’t get past the first knock out round. Blast away soccer boys. Meanwhile, imagine the top 18 athletes playing in the SEC championship game being trained , pushed and elevated in youth soccer since they were 5 instead of some kid who “devoted” himself to soccer.

Each region of potential becomes a quasi federation with the best producers of talent being elevated to the national level for a period of time as a reward/incentive.

Cali, Texas, NY/NJ,etc. Should be their own thing.

I mean, that's basically what the MLS Academies are now.
