Yes, I know that City and NYCFC have common ownership.

Psh.
Partners
Yankees have a small piece of the pie
And once they find a new place for the stadium they’ll buy them out

Been meaning to get in here for a while...
Years back, a few friends had been into soccer for a while, Man U/Arsenal supporters....I didn't know much about it but started paying attention to the CL postgames in the spring of 2012 (FSN or FSC basically). I had off a lot of Tuesdays/Wednesdays, so this was available.
I saw some guy named Mario Gomez score off a swift counter against Marseille and was intrigued. Then watched him score again late vs. Real Madrid in the semis and learned they his team would eventually host the Final...we'd be visiting Munich for four nights just a month or so away in mid-June. I was pretty psyched to have the chance to see the after-effects of the celebration.
Then watched the 2012 Final, saw Müller head in what he thought was the winner...then Drogba Legend does his thing in regulation AND later in penalties.
A team losing a championship in its own home stadium. I saw basically the same thing happen five months earlier in the Superdome on 1/9/12. The relationship was established.
Looking back (and this is a lesson)...before I chose a club, I didn't educate myself on what league Bayern played in, its history, and certainly not the fact that they were the dominant team in Germany. (Unfortunately, much of my basis was seeing Ramos kick one to effing Mars during penalties and a minute later Schweinsteiger ripping off his shirt after clinching)...I was also was visiting the city that I didn't know would become my favorite in Europe with two more return visits in recent years.
In the end however, no regrets.
Since then, I've appreciated Bayern's relative financial sense, solid home atmosphere (though not as good as BVB...there, I said it) and the chance to watch Philipp Lahm for five seasons. Also:
--Badstuber's awful ACL (and subsequent tribute)
--the 7-0 Barca tie
--those garbage time Shaqiri & Pizza goals in standard def on GolTV (Phil Bonney & Alan Fountain TYFYS)
--the Jupp/Pep transition (mostly the Jupp celebrations)
--the GötzeBoner
--Lewa's 5 goals in 9 mins
--that Juve comeback (see sig pic)
--the Kid becoming Lahm 2.0
--being in the Südkurve thanks to a fan I met at Finn's for the 6-0 BVB thrashing in 2018 (35 euro tickets)
--and so many Oktoberfests with the WAGs.
Thanks to Tweezy and Hendo for a proper welcome on this board back in 2013, back when there was actually a Bayern thread...Prost!
ETA: Also, belated thanks to SCH's WAG who supports Bayern and even to Randy for our banter...I still hate Chelsea but now so do you!

Dortmund was on my list. They seem very Texas A&Mish
There is nothing gay about Dortmund. The two are polar opposites.

Back in the mid-90s, if you stayed up late enough, Fox Sports South would show the Premier League GOTW on Wednesday morning at like 3am. So although I was in HS and around 16, i'd wake up and watch it...
Often times, Manchester United were being featured. And I became a big fan of Eric Cantona and David Beckham and Ryan Giggs. Then came Ole & Andy Cole. Then Dwight Yorke...great times.
Then we got a descrambler around '96 and I could watch the games on Saturday & Sunday mornings. Which was even better.
So by college, which I went in '97, if you've been following as long as I have, you'd know that you can watch EPL games on Sunday. Serie A replays on Fox SportsSouth on Monday & La Liga Replays on ESPN2 on Mondays. Then UCL Matchdays on ESPN2 on Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 1:30pm CST. I can still remember the Heineken and Sony Bravia commercials.
I was a big fan of United, Juve(w/Del Piero, Zidane, Inzaghi, Deschamps, etc) & Barca(w/Ronaldo, Figo, Rivaldo, Kluivert, etc) back then. I just gravitated to United the most and stayed with them. #GGMU
For MLS, I never picked a team until last season with LAFC...Never liked the Galaxy, they were a yuppie team. And Chivas was too much like a LigaMX team. I went to a couple games and just rode with them. I cheer for a few LA teams(Lakers, Kings) so they fit in. I Love LA.

Chelsea was founded around the time I got into soccer so I figured it'd be cool to support a new team as a new fan.
So, if you are talking about Chelsea F.C. located in London, that would make you 114 years old.

Come on, bro. He's making a self-deprecating joke about Chelsea being a new money team (Abramovich bought the team in 2003).

For the MLS guys that root for a team that isn’t local, but there’s a possibility that one comes.
Would you jump?
This reminds me of a something I was listening to on 'The Total Soccer Show' podcast. They talked about Jason Longshore who is a color commentator for Atlanta United. He was a big fan of DC United before Atlanta got a club. He even use to do a podcast about DC United.
I grew up in Florida and now live in Georgia. I started to get interested in the MLS and wanted to follow a team. I was about to jump on the Orlando City band wagon when I heard that Atlanta was trying to get a team. So I been in since the beginning with Atlanta United. I do not really have a team I am tied to in Europe. I root for the Americans that may play for the NT. BVB because of CP, with him gone pay attention to Reyna's son who will probably debut this season, Schalke because of Weston. The PL I again am not overly involved with a team. I am interested in New Castle(Great Beer) because of Yedlin and also because of Almiron but they are a train wreck. I will probably pull heavily for Chelsea because of CP.

I understand that...it is simply irritating to people who enjoyed Chelsea before the Russian oligarchs, in the days of Gianfranco Zola.
