I think he could return to form, or maybe I'm just hoping that.
He has a chip on his shoulder, something to prove for the first time in a long time.

well, he's one of the destroyers. I haven't seen a ton of Strootman but he's apparently more of a passer.

My semis look like this: France vs Germany, Netherlands vs Spain. I think Netherlands and Germany have a group game rematch in the finals with Germany emerging victorious for a second time.

I think Italy will be the euro version of France at the 2010 WC. I don't foresee a mutiny, but their team seems to be in disarray. I like Ireland to come out along Spain.
The match fixing is a good omen for them though

Like I posted, Ireland actually got a favorable draw in that Spain and Italy (of all the top seeds) may struggle the most with their catenaccio. It would still be a miracle if they got out but it's possible that they ride a wave of 0-0 draws to glory.

Italy is in disarray due to injury problems and Criscito's suspension. Those bastardi di Juve went the whole season without so much as bruise and now they're all breaking down.

I don't like Italy's chances against Spain in the first match going with a formation they've never played. It may turn into a shootout.

But, as long as Pirlo doesn't get hurt and Balotelli doesn't beg red cards (serious ifs), I think they'll get through and give France all they handle in the knockouts.

I agree and I am a Croatia supporter. Luka didn't play at all in the friendlies so it doesn't look good for him. In my opinion the more serious loss is Lovren. If he doesn't play, our defense will be extremely vulnerable.

No way he makes it the entire tourney without doing something childish/stupid/or detrimental to the azzuri, it's part of who he is.

I didn't know he was out too.

C is unfortunately becoming "the group of lost defenders".

It's really too bad about him and Modric. I've always liked Srna at lot and Croatia still has talented attacking options but I see Jelavic, Mandzukic etc being so much more dangerous with Modric pulling the strings behind them.

France should be fun to watch, and will be a difficult out for anyone.

The thing that strikes me about France in looking over their roster is how evenly distributed their quality players are. They seem to have quality with very solid back up options at every single position.

Spain, Germany and Holland do seem a cut above the field but even they have weaker areas like central defensive or fullback depth and/or prima punta depth that France really doesn't.

That also means there's probably more tough choices about who starts than for any other side and certainly could leed to some "hurt feelings".

Yeah, our prospects look bleak right now but you never know. This is Slaven's last go round with the Vatreni so maybe they might adopt a "win one for the departing coach" approach. I've followed this team very closely for the past several years and they are an unpredictable lot. They could surprise but I am not optimistic. As for Srna, Croats hate him because they think he dives too much but I like the others you listed. We definitely have attacking options.
