And I agree, Spanish football is nowhere near the worst to watch. Not even close.

If they would have just kept their shite together against the Dutch, they had a damn good shot at winning. Too bad Melo lost his damn mind

The key to beating Spain is to give them that false sense of confidence. Let them get their 60% possession and take some low percentage shots but beat them with athleticism and speed on the counter. You play physical with them without conceding too many dangerous fouls.

Bob Bradley essentially wrote the book on how to beat the Spanish.

DeMerit, Gooch, and Bocanegra played the game of their lives as well.

Gooch may have blocked as many shots that day as Tim Howard. He was throwing his body all over that day

That performance earned him a nice, albeit unwarranted, deal with AC Milan.

But oh how the people on this board "oohed and aahed", this was "the consacration of American football in the entrails of a hallowed European institution".

Gooch under other formative circumstances may easily been a best ever candidate shot (not best ever, I mean that nebulous group of ten or twelve which changes its ranks every two to three years). No doubt.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. His one foot arse would not have seen the ball if Webb were to have done his frickingering job properly.

-35 min 9 men

And this is why people laugh at the pussy Spanish. It's not Webb's fault Spain started the game off with a typical Busquets fig out in the first minute of the game. They set the tone early and ruined the World Cup Final just as they did pretty every other match they played in. Puyol deserved a red 10x more than any Dutch player. And the Spanish flopping eventually got the Dutch a red that won the game.

Initially I thought Gooch would get some time with Milan as their center halves at the time were aging and lacking in depth. However, some bad preseason form coupled with his knee injury erased any chance of him getting playing time last season. We should see him more this coming campaign.

Italian clubs are notoriously bad about signing players after one game performances and Gooch happened to be a free transfer.

Grabbing a guy from behind preventing a goal scoring chance while you already have a yellow is much worse and has much more effect on the game than kicking a guy in the middle of the field when their was not even a remote goal scoring opportunity imo.
