37 years ago I was told that soccer was going to be the most popular sport in the U.S. but it hasn't happened yet. Where does soccer rank with NFL, NCAA Football, NBA, MLB, NCAA Basketball and women's volleyball?

ETA: First ever soccer board post.......trolling?.....maybe.....played as a child, just don't get the love of the game. Don't get me wrong, I am watching the USA in the World Cup, but just don't get the fanaticism of the game in general.

MLS has attendance that is better than NHL and NBA
Is that based on per game attendance or total for the season because soccer is played in a larger venue?

TV in USA recently
World cup.....no duh.

Soccer has taken Baseballs spot in favorite sport to watch in young people
I might agree with that.

MLS also has better attendance at games than the MLB. Seattle Sounders average just over 40k a game.

it is going to be up there soon, it is close right now. As someone said before, Soccer is the most popular sport in youth and young adults(16-30~). Baseball is losing it's spot, but will always be there and have a massive fan base. I can see some people stop watching football due new rules and other factors.

In 10 years

1. Basketball
2. Football
3. Soccer
4. Baseball

If/when football does falter, NBA is right there to take over. I know basketball isn't popular in Louisiana but its more popular than football in several states as it is.

Guys, stop being so defensive. He obviously seriously wants to know where soccer ranks compared to women's volleyball. Jeez. Elitist soccer jerks.

Based on this, while seeing a decline similar to other youth sports recently, soccer has the second highest participation to basketball for the age group 6-18 (6.61 million versus 6.95 million). This, and the increased availability to watch decent, pro soccer (TV and in person [MLS]) bodes well.

Soccer is the number two sport for Americans 12-24, behind football.

I think it's funny that these old fricks from BFE just can't comprehend that soccer is really getting huge with the younger demographic. For better or worse, "swag" is really big right now with that demographic. Soccer and basketball definitely have that. Baseball (and I like baseball just fine...) is a bunch of pudgy dudes with bad facial hair that look like they spend their non-baseball hours playing PC games or some shite. Baseball needs an image makeover badly. They need a modern day Ken Griffey JR.

Really they just don't need to play 2000 games a season.
