I feel like perfectly normal half’s are still getting 6 minutes added on. And that’s happening multiple times. Anyone else feel like the added times are higher than normal?

They are higher than normal but “normal” has been way below what it should’ve been for years.

There needs to be 90 minutes of soccer. Not 80 minutes of soccer and 10 minutes of writhing around in pretend pain.

FIFA has chosen to address this issue by adding more time. That’s a bandaid. The cure would be to start carding these frickers that holler like they’ve been shot or go down every time they get touched. This is where the people that watch soccer once every 4 years are right, the “gamesmanship” is a ridiculous part of the sport. Nobody wants to see a guy rolling around screaming in pain only to hop up a minute later and continue on without a limp

Harry Kane might have actually hurt himself against Iran by falling dramatically on a challenge that didn’t actually take him off his feet.

Just wait till the premier league inevitably starts doing this

“And the 4th official has signaled for 23 minutes of stoppage time”

This might be a CrAzY iDeA since to a lot of people making a change to soccer is like taking a shite in the ark of the covenant but why doesn’t soccer have one ref track and time the exact amount of stoppage to add. No more guessing or adding time based on if the team you like is winning or not.

Even easier than tracking how much time to add (but I know this is too shocking for purists) is to, gasp, stop the clock when someone is on the ground for 5 minutes and everyone else is on the sideline getting water and discussing tactics. If you are trying to time waste and look up and see the clock literally stopped as everyone watches you act a fool you will, well, feel like a fool.

Better get ready for commercials if you’re going to start stopping the clock.

Okay. If they want to roll around on the field hurt then I don’t care about seeing a commercial

I do. frick commercials. They’ve ruined the flow of college football and would do the same to soccer.

Fair enough. I just went through the MSB thread on why soccer sucks and my brain read their “suggestions” into yours.

I have to agree. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong, but added time was usually 2-3 minutes (or less), 10 or more years ago.. 4 minutes was A LOT. Now, it seems like every game is getting 7 or more minutes.

Dude what do you think is going on when 3 players go down simultaneously holding their legs for 4 minutes?

And that situation would be made better if it were brought to you by Aflac and seven personal injury attorney commercials?

Oh. I’m not really wanting this for the commercials, I’m trying to get the time wasting stopped. If we have to have a commercial until players learn that time wasting is pointless due to the clock not running, then that’s the collateral. I’ll deal with it for a bit. Imagine no more waiting until the goalie has taken 20 seconds to kick a goal kick 10 times before getting a card. No more players just collapsing in stoppage. No more kicking the ball away during a free kick or throw in. Doesn’t matter. Clock has stopped.

Just do it like the world cup is doing it. Are we sure they don't have an alternate official trackin stoppage time? I know i read they were using a more accurate measure of tracking it. If players keep seeing 10+ minutes of stoppage they will realize rollin around is pointless n we won't have dumbass clock stoppages where tv will inevitably insert commercial breaks

Right I understand that, but it’s been proven over and over that you don’t get back all the time another team wastes. If a goalie takes 15 seconds to go get the ball and kick it, a player stays down for 45 seconds, and the team wasting time takes 30 seconds to get the ball and take a free kick. You will not get another 1:30 after the allotted stoppage time. Just never happens that way. And that’s compounded from earlier time wasting. I’m telling you right now if you have a clock stopping when a player goes down or ball is not in play, you get closer to getting that time back. Games would unfortunately be longer, maybe allow more subs, I dunno. But the way it is now, teams just start wasting MORE time in the MORE stoppage time
