Just to add fuel to the fire, the fancy plastic balls everybody uses now-a-days are considerably harder to control, pass, finesse around the pitch. Although i still don't consider Messi the greatest ever, not so sure he is even Barca's best player. Sure does get all the credit though.

I could agree with that.
In my lifetime, I would say Ronaldo is the best, followed closely by Zidane and then Messi. Messi can become the GOAT, though.

Y'all are talking out of your asses. First you say Pele can't be the best because he didn't play in Europe. Then you say he isn't the best because the 1970 World Cup team was the best ever.
Well, guess what? A vast majority of that 1970 team did not play in Europe. So how can they be considered the best if they didn't even have players that played in the supposed best leagues? That team was the best and the real point is that you don't have to play in Europe to be considered the best (especially in Pele's era). Additionally, Pele was the the best player of the best team ever. That should increase his stock not diminish it. On top of that, he won 2 other World Cups and only didn't win a 4th because he was hunted down and knocked out of the Cup.
On top of that, Pele has 12 goals in 14 World Cup games. Maradona has 8 in 21. Pele has scored over 1200 goals in his career at the top division professional level. Maradona pales in comparison.
The comparisons are cute but that is all they are.

In 1962 Pele only played the first 2 matches before getting injured but he still managed to score a goal. So to say he did not contribute and that title is "like javi martinez won a WC" is not quite accurate. In 1958 Pele was 17 and was only inserted into the lineup at the quarterfinal stage. He went on to score 6 goals including a hat trick in the semis and 2 more in the finals. And you know about 1970. So I am not sure what you are trying to diminish about his World Cup accomplishments.

I don't think you can judge being the best player of all time by international career alone... and Pele never proved himself at a higher tiered club level. But all players have their knocks, except Zidane of course, the real greatest player of all time.

They were the best international team. See, most international squads are comprised of players from many different clubs. There is an adjustment period, as these players do not play together much and therefore don't have the team chemistry built in from playing together a lot. This wasn't so for the 1970 Brazil team.

That is like saying that since Messi plays with two of the best midfielders in football today, then he obviously should be regarded as the best overall player. It doesn't hold water. I would like to see how Messi did with another squad, where he wasn't receiving perfect passes regularly and having more attention from defenses. I think this actually takes away from his and Pele's stock.

Zidane has won everything in football there is to win. Euros, World Cup, Champions League, Balon D'Or, Golden Ball... You name it, he has it. Although he only has 1 World Cup (where his two headers won it for France), if he hadn't lost his cool with Materazzi, he would likely have a second.
