It seems like this is the deepest into the WC without a game ending in a draw. I think teams realize the value of those first 3 points (I think I heard a stat where 85% of teams that win their first game advance). What is the cause of the more open play?

I'm not complaining at all just wondering.

It's been exciting at least. I was about to post something along those lines. Should make for some interesting storylines later in group play.

This and also the team that scores first ends up losing more often.
Croatia, Spain, Japan, Uruguay

Fluke. I bet at least three of the 8 openers remaining are draws.

It's the evening out from 2010.

Goal scoring was at a premium to open up the WC in 2010.

More goals means less of a chance for a draw.

It's been very exciting... Seems like previous opening matches have been more about not losing. This WC seems like teams want to start out with a bang.

At least all the people that knock soccer don't have their biggest argument to fall back on....."It's not American for a game to end in a tie, I'm not wasting two hours of my life to watch a 0-0 tie"

This is a good thing, not bad.

Ending a game in a tie, ever, is fricking stupid.

I'm going to talk so much shite in the MB the next time we have a draw in an NFL game. Hell I kinda wished baseball ended in a draw instead of possibly going on 8 hours.
