What does a day like today do for the growth of US Soccer?

Obviously, the games going on were across the pond in England, but Fox/ESPN invested a lot of money to have a lot of games on TV in the States and the result they got was one of the more thrilling finishes to a season in quite some time.
My question is do you think this helps gain more soccer fans, not on the scale of the Donovan goal mind you, but atleast boost the ratings in hopes of better TV deals in the future?

i think if anything it will help propel soccer into the mainstream in the US. ESPN's investment into world soccer shows that good soccer is palatable to even the staunchest NFL fan.

Well, MLS is the future of US soccer interest, not European leagues.
Today was awesome, having all the matches on. For US purposes, it would have been better if they had all been 2pm starts.

I think the MLS will get better as soccer becomes bigger in the US> But in order for that to happen they need to start showing more and more European league and international soccer on mainstream TV

I never played soccer. The only time I even watched soccer before this year was the World Cup. However, I can tell a big difference in the level of play going from the EPL and MLS. MLS is hard to watch because they aren't nearly as good as the English guys. I haven't seen any of the other leagues play.

As a recent follower of the sport, you've probably only seen the Top 7 teams play. There's a lot more aesthetically appealing football being played in Salt Lake and Seattle, than in Stoke and Blackburn.
Your reasoning is decent, but flawed. You're comparing the best clubs in the world (and not the bad ones in the same league), against a league run in an American style of business in only it's 17th season of existence.
And quality players (and play) does not necessarily equate to excitement. Today's New York vs. Philadelphia game was entertaining, despite the fact that the best player on either side today is considered a bust by many pundits.

I think it's great for the sport, I mean look at all of us that follow epl play.. We almost all root for the US men's team as much as possible, and some have transitioned to the mls
Also I thought you were talking about Thierry at first.. Is he nicked up right now and not playin?
Also Adu has shown a lot more to me in the last few months, hope it keeps trending up
