Was just flipping through channels and landed on Fox Sports Houston and saw a shootout between two Texas high schools for the state championship (Sharyland won, forgot the other team).

Anyway, the way this shootout was done was weird. Like most high schools they were playing on a football field with both goals placed at the back end of the endzone. For each PK, the ball was placed at the 35 yard line. Once the whistle blew, the player could dribble before taking the shot and the goalie could come out to block it.

I played high school soccer in Louisiana and I know for a fact, that's not how we did PK's.

School athletic associations don't adhear to FIFA or US Soccer game laws.

It's completely different in every state.

TN highschool has a number of strange rules too.

You would think though that, in a state that is heavily populated by Mexicans who know the sport, the rules would be closest to the FIFA rules as possible.

Early MLS shootout

Whatever state association that governs (Tejas has two for club, iirc. Assume that it might be similar for high school) that is living in the past

Yeah but they stopped after like 3 years because they realized it was stupid.

This high school shootout went 6 rounds and only 5 goals total were scored. A lot of these kids lost their shite with the goalie coming in on them.

Was it timed like the old MLS shootouts?

I find it hard to believe that the teams playing for the texas highschool state championship, had starting players that failed to regularly convert in a Hockey style shoot out.

That should be pretty much automatic.

I played high school soccer in Texas and that was how our shoot outs were. Foul in the box was like a regular PK, but if the game was tied. 35 yard dribble ups with 5 seconds to shoot
