Congrats to Ramos for setting new La Liga record for red cards

Should've gotten sent off on the handball for the denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity on the first yellow card.

Not sure if it’s deserving of its own thread, but the fact that Claudio Pizarro has scored a goal in the Bundesliga for 21 consecutive years is absolutely insane.

Disagree. There were players on the line behind him. Had he been the last man then it should have been a red all day.

While I get your point, only Casemiro was really on the line in position to make a play as Courtois was out of position. And even then, I don't think Casemiro was going to block it from seeing the flight of the shot.

Also, what's the difference between Ramos denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity with a defender behind him instead of a goalie?

Albeit, the shot was taken so close to Ramos that I can accept the yellow card as well.

ETA: Varane, not Casemiro

What the replay, both casemiro and Varane are on the line and the shot appears to be heading pretty close to Varane.

Here is the best still I could get. This is before the ball hits Ramos.

I’m assuming the logic used is that Madrid have three players behind the ball who could theoretically stop it from going in.

I’m also assuming that it’s similar to if a player tackles someone 35 yards out from goal as a last ditch effort as the final defender then it’s a red for denying a goal scoring opportunity. But there is another defender even remotely close to the play it will be just be given as a normal foul with a yellow card if necessary.

Yeah, I meant to say Varane and not Casemiro.

And the logic you used there is sound. Like I said, I can understand a yellow.
I just think that if the ball doesn't hit Ramos' arm then it's going in. I understand that there's a player behind them, but based on the trajectory of the ball (albeit from a not great camera angle), that ball is going in and Ramos denied a goal.

I definitely get your point.

I just feel like the referee will always try to avoid the triple punishment if at all possible.

I don't know why, but it really chaps my arse that Chelsea plays their #1 keeper in every cup match.

I'd be pissed if I was Kepa's backup.
