Now they say it's $16m+.
Most expensive transfer in MLS history is 32 year old Wayne Rooney.
We've got to pay off our losses on Klaassen and Sandro

They’re gonna pay more for Wayne Rooney than Atlanta paid for Ezequiel Barco or Miguel Almiron. I’d be sick.

Yep, and they won't even be able to sell him 2-3 years.

Yeah the diehard DC United fans are really pissed off about this deal. I’m a casual fan of them and have basically tuned them out the past few years because it’s been very apparent they don’t give a shite about competing. This will be a nice shot in the arm for the team and the new stadium is going to be sick and it’ll be a lot easier to make games now. I was praying we would land Gary Medel last year.

Unless he becomes a Golden Boot candidate, I don’t see how this is a good move for DCU. Could provide a temporary shot in the arm for attendance and attention. But it’s not a great way to rebuild a team into a contender.
As much as I love him, Wazza isn’t Beckham.

And I highly doubt he gets anywhere close to that.

Given up 13 goals in 7 games, getting dominated in possession. Yeah, let's set a league record for a forward that isn't going to cover much ground.

Shits on MLS buying old guys until it is your MLS team and a former star from your favorite club.

We are so behind the power curve it doesn't even matter
we tried to get lil messican but that didn't work out
id would have much preferred that.
The transfer fee is insane but since we won't be paying a majority of the wages, it wont be a huge hit on the wage scale.
Brining in a star like Wazza is what they needed to do with opening the new ground.
He won't sand bag it like Lampard or Pirlo, and he will actually add from professionalism to the side esp during training sessions. Something tons of players who have played abroad say is lacking in MLS bc no one is really fighting for their place or not to be relegated.

Once again he doesn't need to cover much ground to score goals in this league.

Lock up your grandmothers, DC.

You do need to get the ball and get it in good positions to score. DC has by far the fewest shots and shots on goal. He's not going to be much help when he's standing a midfield because the opposing team has the ball around your box.

That's why you bring in guys with something to prove (see Almiron and Barco).

Spend $2m on scouts and go find one of the next South American stars.

Yeah, I was just ragging you. I like the move. Look at Bastian in Chicago. Struggling club in a major city, and they went from the Chicago dumpster Fire to a playoff team last year.
To everyone acting like you can get an Almiron is being really oblivious.
Atlanta United has a huge budget, Tata is an ELITE recruiter of young SA talent, they have an awesome training ground, unparalleled stadium atmosphere in the States, and almost everyone of Almiron’s quality will go to Europe. The club pitched Atlanta as a stepping stone to major clubs in Europe.
The model is not easy to replicate, especially if the money is not there. LAFC seems to be doing a decent job so far though.

His legs seem gone though. He isn't the powerhouse he once was.

Continuing to repeat this doesn't necessarily make it true.
Personally I think Rooney is going to pretty average in the MLS. I definitely don't agree with the "he'll still be better than 95% of the league" statement.

He will get plenty of chances
He will get in positions you act like he forgot how to get into the scoring area. Mix that with terrible defending he will be fine.
can't wait till he bangs them in vs ATL

Rooney always have something to prove
you can see it in the way he plays

Its true, all he has to do is just slip the terrible defending in the league
Ibra doesn't cover much ground and hes been fine
