Obviously Im still fully into this World Cup but I can't help but think about our chances in 2018 as well. It's impossible to predict who will be retired, injured, or just not good anymore. I think it's safe to say the following players: Dempsey (34), Howard (39), Beckerman (36), Wondolowski (35), Beasley (36), Jermaine Jones (36), and Brad Davis (36) will all be too old. Dempsey may be the only exception but for the sake of argument Im going to leave him off.

Im also going to include everyone who won't be over 32 (except Guzan obviously) on the current roster, regardless of their form or my opinion of them. So that leaves these current players, with their age in 2018:

1. Altidore (28)
2. Bradley (30)
3. Johannsson (27)
4. Mix (27)
5. Yedlin (24)
6. Zusi (31) maybe?
7. Omar Gonzalez (29)
8. Geoff Cameron (32)
9. Timothy Chandler (28)
10. Bedoya (31)
11. Fabian Johnson (30)
12. Besler (31)
13. Brad Guzan (33)
14. John Brooks (25)
15. Julian Green (22)

Both of these guys were on the 30 man preliminary roster so I will include them:

16. Terrence Boyd (27)
17. Joe Corona (27)

Who do you think takes the final six spots and why?

**** No, Landon Donovan cannot come sorry ****

This is such a dumb thread.

Did you even know who Julian Green, Matt Besler, Graham Zusi, Fab Johnson, Timmy Chandler, John Brooks and Aron Johannsson were 4 years ago?

This.

Plus think there is a good chance Dempsey is still on the roster at 34.
And If Timmy still wants to play in the next world cup, he will be on the roster. maybe not starting but along for the ride. He will still be playing at the club level at 39 imo. GK can basically play until they are Sir Alex's age.

So many things can happen. Hell, it would've been a stupid thread if this was made in 2017, let alone RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 2014 WORLD CUP.

Sorry for wasting everyones time then. My purpose, not made clear in the OP, was not to get into a discussion about the talents of 14 year old kids who may not have citizenship yet but more of a look at who we have to replace.

Eric Lichaj approves of this thread, if that helps.

That was a VERY subtle way to start that discussion

In the 2011 Gold Cup, I was so fricking excited because I thought our left back problems were finally over.

Little did I know that, 3 years later, we'd be converting and starting DaMarcus Beasley at left back (we all thought his USMNT career was over after the 2010 WC).

I like this thread, but it's hard as hell to know.

Hopefully Zelalem is in there.

Pointless to even try to project four years out. See this thread I started four years ago (both OP and many of the responses):
