Beating Portugal wouldn't have mattered had Portugal beaten South Korea 2 weeks later like they should have.
Making it to the quarters was vastly more important.

And should have beat Germany too. A non call on the goal line handball along with Kahn playing out of his mind kept us from advancing.

i really didnt understand the use of the term "revisionist history" there.
anyways, if you werent happier when landon scored than you were when we beat portugal, then frick you. in fact, if you have ever been happier in your entire life than when landon scored, then frick you

This should never be mentioned ever.
Reyna just missing the long range open goal shot and Sanneh hitting the side netting towards the end makes it even worse.
frick!!!!

Agreed. The Donovan goal is the best moment of my life.

Oh, I understand that. Just like beating Ghana in 2010 would have been bigger/more important than beating Algeria. But I will argue that beating Portugal was a happier feeling.
Edit: My post from last night was very definitive, which was unfair. I can certainly understand how Donovan's goal may have been a happier moment for some people.

My post was also way too definitive, but it was in a joking manner. None of this will matter this summer when we lift the cup

There are several that rank up there, but my biggest is the win over Colombia in 1994.

That may have been one of the greatest Colombian teams the country ever produced. Seriously, the nation hasn't come close up to that point and really ever since until THIS year when they secured a top seed. I was too young in '94 to even remember anything that was going on, but it must have been awesome.

I actually kind of hate that whole story for putting a big downer on one our greatest moments ever.

it certainly got that tournament off to a great start.
i actually like the 2am/6am kickoffs
summer after my junior yr in high school so all i had to worry about was acquiring alcohol and marijuana to support my game watching experience.
and going in dry on mex was awesome.

I was 12 at the time and I just remember being so excited about setting my alarm to wake up at those times.

I was 14 but had the same feeling.

it's hard for us to imagine what that game was like for Mexico. Imagine the 2010 + 2013 Iron Bowls for an Alabama fan but x100. It gutted them and they still haven't gotten over it.
