Was there a worst stint in England by a USMNT player than Jozy Altidore

70 games between 3 seasons and only 2 goals. Yikes.

Goes to show the EPL is just a different animal. He had 39 goals in 67 appearances in the Dutch league.

I think it had more to do with Paolo Di Canio being clinically insane and Sunderland being just as volatile. Pretty much everyone for the club from 2013 through their relegation was trash for them.

If anything, it shows that just because a big 4 league club may want you, doesn't always mean it's the right move for your career. Prime Jozy was clearly talented enough to play for a mid-table EPL side, but sometimes shite happens.

I just remember him shanking a goal at point blank range and the announcers absolutely burying him.

Sunderland was a cluster for sure, but he wasn't very good. Both can be true.

I'm not saying he was good at Sunderland... he was dreadful.

But around that same time, he was burying hat tricks against Bosnia and scoring against Germany. Confidence matters.

If you look at the statistics for that Sunderland team they were actually much better with Jozy on the pitch. More goals scored, less conceded. Unfortunately he got zero service and their best winger was a pedophile.

That is great and all, but those are both friendlies. Jozy always seemed to be THE GUY that the USMNT needed up top, but the truth is, he only had 1 goal against a decent opponent in a competitive match against Spain in the 2009 Confederations Cup. He scored lots of goals against low level CONCACAF teams like Jamaica, TNT, Panama, etc...but when we needed him the most against good teams in competitive matches, he could never find the net.

Calling that Spain team "decent" is hilarious.

Yeah... injuries suck.

2011 Gold Cup - Taken off roster with injury
2014 World Cup - Injured 25 minutes into first match
2015 Gold Cup - Taken off roster with injury
2016 Copa America - Missed roster due to injury

His prime went up in smoke.

Landon Donovan’s loan spell at Everton was pure arse too.

It was poorly worded. I meant decent or better.

Ugh. I was at the opening game vs Honduras in Dallas on like the 2nd row. He was already complaining right after the anthem that his spikes weren't right. I knew right then he didn't want to be there.

He was actually pretty good in the few games he played, and very well liked at Everton.

The correct answer to the OP's question is Brek Shea at Stoke.
