I just heard on ESPN radio that Klinsmann was shown a red card for slamming a ball to the ground. Neither of those things happened, that I saw...is this a case of ESPN being clueless or did I miss something?

Klinnsman was ejected from the match, CONCACAF disciplinary committee is going to decide if he can be on the sideline for the final.

yea i saw that but it wasn't a red or because he slammed a ball. It was bc he said something...so that means ESPN is wrong & dishing out false info...shocking!

Coaches aren't shown red cards IIRC. They are just dismissed

i don't think that's true. the post-game on FSC they were asking the question if he was shown a red bc none of them saw it. they even brought in that doctor who is some expert in officating and he asked the question whether or not he was shown a red...so apparently they can be shown a red or all of them are just as clueless as ESPN

Portugal-Holland in WC2006 was pretty bad. 4 red cards and 16 yellows. The ref seemed card happy in that game.

And he said, "Coaches don't get cards."

It wasn't the worst, but that was the same ref from the WCQ loss against Honduras.

i think you misunderstood the doctor guy. coaches are not to be shown cards (except in high school). coaches can be ejected but there is no card involved.

that said, i agree with the poster who said the ref kept the cards in his pocket too long. he was dangerously close to losing complete control of that match. Rimando never gets trucked over if the ref had started showing cards for the ridiculous fouls. The fact that he gave Johnson a card on the Honduras free kick (it's technically for delaying the restart, not "encroachment" like the commentator said) while he let all of the late tackles go is a good sign that he wasn't in control.

He admitted in his post match that he shouldn't have thrown the ball. So I guess he did that. I fricking dare concacaf to ban klinsmann from the final. Our players will be so heated. Also coaches don't get red cards you noobs.

He should have shown a couple of yellow's. Some of the fouling was over the top. Have not seen a ref keep the cards in his pocket like that in a long time. Klinsmans sending off was a joke. But there has been alot worse refs than that.

So I just wrote a letter to Jeffrey Webb, president of concacaf asking him to address this referee situation. I used a few examples in recent cup games where blatant bias against the USA is not being handled properly. Doubt he'll get it or see it, but worth a try. Told him it was a disgrace and embarrassment to the beautiful game and our players who work their asses off.

Italy skorea 2002 WC.

Agreed....I think there was a play where Totti was taken down in the box and it was a clear penalty and the refs gave Totti a yellow for diving The S. Korea matches against portugal and Spain were bad as well, and they tried to give them the semifinal match vs. Germany. That WC as a whole was a shite show

Here it is. It was Totti's second yellow.

Thanks for the link, I forgot it was his second yellow....and Maldini got kicked in the head as well, just a disgrace all around, and I normally don't have much sympathy for Italy

The whole South Korea run was awful. The Portugal-holland game was also ridiculous. I want to be mad at the ref during the US-Slovenia game for the bullshite foul on Edu's goal, but without him we wouldn't have had that amazing Algeria game.

That wasn't the refs fault as much as it was two countries disgracing themselves.
