He doesn't just annoy the shite out of the SB? What a surprise.

Shea and Donovan are ruled out of qualifiers per twitter. No replacements will be named.

Well, doesn't that fill us all with hope and joy...

This is setting up to be a disaster of epic proportions.

Meh, we got Alan Gordon bishes!!!!!!!!!!!!
ETA:I know Gordon isn't a winger, but honestly, he can do what he wants. Like RvP.

That's not bad. It should be enough to beat Antigua.
It still contains four center mids too many.
And this gem from Matthew Doyle:

Potential US lineup now: Howard; Cherundolo, Cameron, Bocanegra, F. Johnson; Williams; Zusi, Bradley, Kljestan; Dempsey, Gómez.

For the record: Chris Wondolowski just scored three goals while playing right midfield. Why not call him in?

Should have called in Lichaj so that Johnson could play wing.

I wouldn't be against playing Fabian as a left-sided midfielder if we had a better back up LB (I know, Lichaj).
I'm not even sure how that would work. Klejstan on the left with Dempsey and Gomez up top? Or Gomez as the lone striker, Dempsey on the left, Zusi on the right, three man central midfield with Klejstan and Bradley playing in front of Williams?
I wasn't exactly broken hearted about Torres being left off but I'm not sure why he wouldn't get a call now (or Beasley although I would assume that was even less likely). It's not like calling up Josh Gatt or somebody that has no experience with the national team. You could just plug Torres in on the left and it's pretty much the same team that beat Jamaica, albeit with Bradley replacing Jones or Williams.

Beat me to it. Johnson and Castillo on the left is kind of scary though.

williams
zusi,bradley,kliestan

Feel free to correct me if I've missed something, but it seems like Juergen has a pretty significant aversion to playing Dempsey out wide left, not like he'd offer true width, anyway.

yeah, my original thought was that he started on the left versus Canada, but now that I think about it I believe it was Torres.
He's definitely been right off the main striker pretty much since Klinnsman took over.
Klejstan on the left is a bit depressing (not that I think he's a bad player) but at least we have Bradley back.
Edit: I think he may have played on the left in the first Antigua and Barbuda game, but that's about it.

Does anyone know why when a player Jurgen calls into camp originally can't go in the game he doesn't replace them? I just don't understand that line of thinking.

Some stuff from Ives
SoccerByIves
As 4 not calling replacements, Klinsmann called in extra bodies w/ this eventuality in mind. That said, surprised Pontius didn't get a call
Really not sure why Torres or Beasley weren't called up now (or Pontius). Apparently it was pretty obvious Shea wasn't going to be available.

Finally some good news for USMNT fans MT @BrentJavan: Guatemala loses 2 more MNT defenders, short top 4 or 5 CBs for upcoming qualifiers

I assume Klinsmann will go with something like this.
Howard
Johnson-Cameron-Boca-Cherundolo
Bradley-Jones
Kljestan-Dempsey-Zusi
Gomez
I would like to see Williams selected ahead of Jones, but Klinsmann prefers Jones.
Dempsey could play on the left with Kljestan as the #10.
Klinsmann could push Kljestan back with Bradley and Jones and set it up in a more traditional 4-3-3 with Zusi and Dempsey on either side of Gomez.

I would be ok with that lineup. Wish we had more wing options though. Also, switch your backs.

For the first time since qualifying began, I'm actually worried about us not making it into the Hex. Something just feels very off about this WC cycle.
If we end up not qualifying for Brazil, I may go on a killing spree.
