I astounds me that we have an attacking midfield of Kieswetter, Green and Zelalem... three guys who have come up through European youth systems, yet we still can't hold on to the ball for more than three seconds.

I agree. This midfield play and complete lack of possession appears to now be systemic problems throughout all levels of the USMNT.

I mean, zelalem and green play for youth teams. kiesewetter, for one of the worst teams in the bundesliga. I still have high hopes for all three players who are still among the best prospects that we have.
but they're playing against a team full of players who feature for champions league level teams. Fred has played 50+ matches for shakhtar and plays for Brazil's senior team. Felipe Anderson is a bonafide superstar already in serie a. gabigol will sell for 20+ million euros in the next 18 months to a champions league side. Doria and Fabinho, starters at big clubs. Lucas silva plays for Real Madrids first team. etc.
very few players on the usmnt first team would see the field on this Brazil roster. none of the three players you just named would see the field. I'm not saying that means we should give up, but that's what we're up against. it's not all "game plan."

Exactly. The is a very good Brazilian side with a ton of true talent.
