Pefok isn't going to Qatar guys.

Wow. I agree he doesn't fit the Plan A system, but the guy is a battering ram and is a great late game sub if trying to find a goal while pumping balls into the box

Agreed.

I would definitely bring him to the World Cup for matches when you are inevitably chasing a goal.

On Ream, Berhalter says playing a high line and aerial ability aren't his strengths, which led to him not being called in #USMNT

Gregg Berhalter starts by emphasizing this is not the final #WorldCup roster.

Meg Swanick @Meg_Swanick
22m
He goes on to name specific players who could earn their way onto the team, including: Zack Steffen, Gaga Slonina, James Sands, Tim Ream, EPB, Matt Miazga, Mark McKenzie, Shaq Moore, Johnny Cardoso, Eryk Williamson, Jordan Pefok, Haji Wright & Brandon Vasquez

Why does our coach hate scoring goals.

I mean, Pepi has more goals than Pefok for the USMNT.

Would you rather a coach without a system?

There are pros and cons to Gregg's system, but at least we're not going full-on Jurgen-ball and putting out an XI with a bunch of square pegs in round holes.

I'll give Gregg credit in this respect, he recognizes that the player pool allows for an up-tempo/high-pressing style of play and he made the change to that style after his original system (mid-block, slower pace bullshite) produced shite results in 2019.

Every national team has players that get left out because of system/fit, this isn't THAT big of a deal.

Broski, we all know that a system is important. That is not the issue, and no one is arguing that here. Also, there is no need to white knight for Greeggg. If a player from his country is having success in the Bundesliga (subsitute his name for any other successful striker) and doing what he's been asked, to blatantly leave him off the list is certainly a head-scratcher and borderline arrogance at this point.

Someone else help me out with this one...

How exactly am I doing that?

Again, I said Pefok should be on the roster, but I think his value to the USMNT is wildly overstated on here.

Should he be shoehorned into the XI and the tactics change at the expense of the strength of the roster i.e our wingers?

Make it make sense instead of creating strawman arguments against me.

I don’t mind Morris. He’s a workhorse and he is also a solid finisher

You think it's a shoehorn? You think it would be at the expense of the others?

Considering what the system asks for the 9, yes.

Pefok as starter has definitely affected the pace of the attack, yes. (Watch the Canada match again)

I think his role should be what it was the one time he scored a USMNT goal. 65th or 75th minute sub when we are chasing a goal. There's value to that, but I can also see an argument to be made for the other three strikers brought in over him.

Pepi - Had a stint where he was the best USMNT striker in key matches this cycle.

Ferreira - Plays exactly how you'd want the #9 to play in this system. If he would consistently put away his chances, it wouldn't even be a debate who the starting 9 should be.

Sargent - Is in the best run of form of his career and was Gregg's OG striker choice for the USMNT. Also has the best work rate of the bunch.
