He'll probably be added for the 2 games in Europe.

Am I the only one that really likes how US Soccer has handled call-ups since Bruce’s ousting?

I haven't been crazy about them. I understand calling in young players, and I encourage it, but I think they have to earn it 1st.

We are playing for nothing at the moment. No reason to keep calling up established and fading players.

Call up some young guns, see what they have, and deepen your pool. That's what friendlies are for, and quite frankly, something Jurgen did a good job at.

I never said that.

There's a huge difference between calling in young guys and calling in guys that aren't even getting senior team minutes.

Fitting that mold (young guy getting club minutes), who do you think was left out?

Would have left Olosunde at home in favor Cannon (started every game for Dallas this season). Steffan should have been called in over Hamid/Horvath (pick one, maybe both because Tim Melia deserves a look). Durkin over Parks at this point (Parks has only played 59 professional minutes). Rubin has barely played for Tijuana, and Lletget is healthy again and should get another shot. Not crazy about Weah getting called in, although he at least finally got his 1st start yesterday. Amon should get called up before him. Sargent still hasn't seen a professional minute. I'd make Jordan Siebatcheu tell us "no".

Siebatcheu led his team in scoring (2nd overall in the league) and they won the 2nd division in France. He's 22 and should be in his prime during the 2022 WC.

Without reading the official release, I would guess the reason many of those you just mentioned arent coming is because they play in MLS. Since we have nothing to play for it wouldn't make since to yank them away from their seasons, especially since this squad is really just helping WC teams warm up.

But the call up could help them get noticed by European clubs, and I think I limited it to one player from each MLS team.

Amon and Siebatcheu already play in Europe.

And so now the natural follow up question is that do you think those guys you mentioned have more upside than the one's that you feel didn't earn the call-up?

Very possible.

And Gio Reyna may have more upside than all of them, but no one is saying he should be called up.

Gio is 16 and also not seeing professional minutes.

I’m most disappointed about Amon not getting called up. I’m ok with Parks over Durkin. This was also supposed to be a more euro heavy camp.

He has the same number of professional minutes as Sargent and Olosunde.

I'm also not advocating that we call up Gio.

I think the point is that those other two guys are closer to professional minutes than Gio.

Also why Melia? Dude will be 36 at the next World Cup and has never been a part of the national team. I would probably take Steffen over Bono though. I bet Bono plays the game in the US and Hamid and Horvath play the games in Europe.

He's been arguably the best GK in MLS, and before you get to the WC in 2022, you have to qualify.

While I agree with this the top national teams in the world typically have those kids come in regularly with the senior team to train and get used to the environment. I think we did a very poor job of this.

I also am of the opinion that the training these young players are receiving is a much higher caliber than what those players in the MLS are receiving. Play/Training with reserves, video, better facilities and staff to train extra.

Is it crazy to say that this team would have qualified if given the full hex?
