Suspect that the line of thinking is similar to:
1. Need to evaluate fringe players before more WC qualifying
2. Need to see them in a hostile environment against a competitive team
3. Can't learn anything about an individual if the entire team is being overrun

JK said that Pontius is the alternate waiting. So if anyone goes out with injury or simply bows out. He is in.
He also said that the Euro players are just not fit yet and not ready. He also wants to build some depth, basically.

“To get players exposed to these kinds of games is a priority,” Klinsmann said. “Is it the highest priority, maybe not. At the end of the day … I want to win Wednesday night over Mexico. But over the stretch of the next two years I want to get as much information as I can of those players coming through the ranks.
“When you have a case like this, with European players behind things right now … this is a good moment. This gives [the newcomers] the chance to come in and prove their value.”

Wait. You don't have a Gordon US kit ?

I had to search Google News to see if Tweezy was lying.
Alan Gordon...
Klinsmann is fricking high. That's like calling in Brian Mullan, or Nick LaBrocca.
I guess Chad Barrett was unavailable after his recent loan to Norway.

He still needs to grow some?

I'm starting to think you were right about this coaching change.

I've seen some positives, and I've seen some growth in the team.
But some of his roster decisions are bizarre.
Why you would call in a 31 year old journeyman forward that's played for 5 MLS teams in two years for a MEXICO game blows my mind.
Could you imagine the uproar if Bob Bradley had called in John Wolyniec for a friendly?

It's just dumb. Why not call in DeMerit if you're going to do shite like that? How the hell does Gordon merit a call up more than Pontius?

I'm reaching here, but maybe he's thinking he could use him late in the game if the unthinkable happens and a goal would get us a win or tie. Like, this has no implications for the future, but no other strikers are available and this guy has been scoring late goals plus is "tough" so why not add him just in case. There is no way JK has him in plans going forward.

C.J. Sapong has a knack for getting a late goal, and probably has an actual future with the team.
Gordon is the worst call up since The Great Jay Heaps Fiasco Of 2009.
With the possible exception of David Yeldell.

Crap, Lenhart would've been a better pick...he got the wrong Quake for demonic last-minute goals.

Gordon won't see the field anyway.
Posted on 8/13/12 at 11:38 am to WarSlamEagle
Maybe he's just gonna be a hit man. Come in and absolutely murder a Mexican defender toward the end of the game. He'd be the most legendary u.s. player and only needed one cap to solidify his greatness.

GAM was too fat for messicans. His Gucci swag was too much for them. I'm sure he wants some revenge.
