USA Rosters vs. European Rosters

I know most of you follow Euro soccer so do many of you feel the same way I do when seeing Klinsmann announce our rosters? I take a look at Germany, England, France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, hell, the swiss and Croatians, and I am in utter awe when I see the god young players coming through and making these rosters. Then I look at our roster and can only feel that US soccer has taken an entirely large dump on our development. I see names like wondo, morris, agudelo, Ibarra, corona, besler, evans etc. Im just saying to me... I get depressed when I see our roster. I do lik Yedlin, Green, Beckerman (sometimes), Bradley but for the most part, we have nothing to be excited about. Just curious what other posters thoughts are...

We are a young footballing nation just now figuring out how to develop proper players. Give us time. If you are still disappointed by the names on our roster when you compare them to Germany, France, Spain, etc in 50 or even 25 years, I will understand your disappointment.

I'm not sure what you expected with this roster. None of our euro based players were going to come stateside for a one off game against Mexico.

give it another 15 to 20 years when the MLS academies start really producing and they are snapped up by the big euros or they stay home to improve the MLS for a few years.
Also lots of our best youth players are learning their trade at some of the best academies in the world like Barca, Dortmund, Chelsea etc.

But look at a lot of the youth we have in top clubs' academies around the world. Future is bright believe it or not

This is really the important thing to keep in mind. We've taken the sport seriously for maybe 20 years? It's natural to want to be great immediately, but it's not as simple as that. People who have grown up in this boom are just coming of age, and the sport is just starting to get really popular. It'll take a few generations.

Sport was taken more seriously eons ago, however. It was dropped with the quickness, between American sports mushrooming, and seeing how good other nations which a priori were considered inferior, were.

Outside of 1930 and the Cosmos in that NASL era, it's never been close to what it is now. I mean, it's been up and down in the States, but it's never been this consistent. The sport's been on the incline for some time, which is hasn't happened before. Not to mention, the Internet has really created a global community that allows Americans to watch world class football consistently and develop connections to teams and leagues. The sport is here to stay in the US, and this generation's love of the game is going to start our ascendance. Personally, I'm going to have my kids (when I actually have any) playing really young and give them all the chances to develop. People weren't doing that really in the past.

What?? If we look at our wc roster: johanson, Brooks, bedoya, Chandler, Johnson all play in Europe. Recently Rubio and Boyd shown potential then there are the quality fringe players in Europe as well that are probably better than some of the guys on this camps roster. Sure I'm forgetting some as well

Fab seems to have gone backwards since the wc and brooks was absolutely dreadful the last time he wore the American shirt. I like chandler, but I still don't see him as a top quality player. This three players are fringe players that are c's and borderline b players

Chandler, yes. Fab and Brooks, not even close. Fab is one of our 4 or 5 most important players. And if you can't see the immense potential in John Brooks, you should watch more closely. The guy has everything needed to be a top CB. He's young. CB's take longer to develop and typically hit their peak years a little later. I agree with you on Chandler, though.

Fab also has been playing in the midfield for his club, which he doesn't do for us and Brooks has been praised by many in the Bundesliga for being one of the most surprising and consistent young players.
These two are definitely doing well.

From everything I've read, Chandler, Brooks, and Johnson have all been solid in Bundesliga play. Morales has been playing well for Ingolstadt, and Danny Williams has been good for Reading (just to name another Germerican).
