But half those Brazilians are being prepped for the next WC or the next.
And they aren't playing in this one b/c guys like Ronaldinho are getting left off of Brazil's roster. When you select Brian Ching and Jonathon Bornstein, it sure seems like you're just accepting that you can't beat those elite teams and just want to get all of your CONCACAF guys some good reps to prep for the next Copa Cabana or whatever.

Ching? Thats pretty damn bold. I like the Herculez pick.. he'll be a fun off the bench pace changer. But what does Ching bring besides a gimpy hammy. Connor Casey being left off is a head scratcher as well.

Shown that he can play at a level that most of these guys can only dream of.

That's a whole lotta folks "dreaming of Freddy's level."
Active US forwards that scored more goals LAST SEASON than Freddy has in three years: Josh Wolff, Nate Jaqua, Jovan Kirovski, Santino Quaranta to name a few. JOHN frickING WOLYNIEC had two (three if you count cup competitions).
So, again....

Explain to me what Freddy has EVER done to be handed a call up for the WORLD CUP.
I'll hang up and listen.

How?

While everyone talks about who they would rather have on the roster, let's take a moment to see who we're glad is not on the roster.
GK: Troy Perkins, Nick Rimando
DF: Marvelle Wynne, Danny Califf, Jonathan Bornstein (oh)
MF: Eddie Gaven, Justin Mapp, Dax McCarty
FW: Jeff Cunningham, Connor Casey, Josh Wolff

Adu and Casey

I still think Freddy can progress in the right situation
I agree. He needs to play. He needs to be wherever he needs to be to play week in and week out. Like I said, I'm all for "forcing him down our throats" beginning with friendly #1 after the World Cup.
But he has done SQUAT since 2006 to warrant inclusion over about 50 other players.
Other than a few stepovers.
I'm just sick of hearing about him.

So tell me how having Robbie Rogers there over Adu is helping the future or the current.
And we're not saying "hand the World Cup" to Freddy. Just simply I think it would be beneficial to both sides if he were in camp just to get a taste of it and compete and show his competitiveness (if he still has it or doesn't).

Nick Rimando is cool with me.
I'll add Taylor Twellman, Davy Arnaud and Logan Pause.
I know Jimmy Conrad isn't good enough for the World Cup anymore, but he's a funny guy.

Yea, I know where you're coming from. I'm just one of those guys that focuses on the positives with a player and still think there is hope whether there is or not. I'm not "mad" he's not on the 30-man roster, but if he would have made it I wouldn't have minded.

Re: Freddy
Freddy's decent showing against Brazil doesn't equate to carrying several years of the same quality. If he can't crack a consistent place in any squad he finds himself in, it's an indictment on his game.
I've seen him play more lackluster matches than impressive ones.
Plus as someone said, he's not pacey enough to be a great winger, and too small to be an attacking midfielder. He doesn't have a killer pass or stellar accuracy. Those are things that players in similar molds have (Nakamura, Juninho, Pirlo to a lesser extent). He still has a lot to work on if he wants to be great.

He's scored a lot of goals wearing the U.S. uniform.
By posting all of those guys goals, you're ignoring the point that he has unique creativity and skill. And you know I wasn't talking about Landon Donovan, Michael Bradley, etc.
Anyway, I'm tired of arguing a point I'm not even sure about. I don't think anybody can be sure what Freddy would do. I would just rather give him that shot than some of these guys who have no real chance to be effective at this level.

Well I don't expect him to be "great"...I sure as heck think he could be good and very solid and give us something we don't have.

Roughly the same age (22), actually fills a need (plays BOTH left and right wing), has more appearances for both club and country, scored more goals for his club and the same amount for country over the last 18 months.
Tell me which part of that Freddy kicks his arse in? Age? Even that's debatable.
Maybe I'm stressing the wrong part.
What has Freddy Adu DONE to justify being a part of this team?
Had a good showing in a youth tournament? Chris Seitz looked good in that tournament, too, and he can't find his arse with two hands.
If it's about potential, why not bring Luis Gil to South Africa? Or Jack McInerney?
FYI, McInerney has 5 appearances and a goal already this season. One more appearance for the Union, and he'll have matched Freddy's output. FOR THE SEASON.
And he can do stepovers, too.

Actually I wouldn't be opposed to that.

Evidently you agree with Bob about how important performance in the MLS is.

You know how many goals in MLS Charlie Davies has this season?
Answer: The same as Robbie Findley.

The Greek League isn't much better to be fair. The main thing is simply playing. It doesn't seem to matter what league.
