I agree, and I agree with what you said. Freddy has skill, he's in a down moment it seems like and he needs something to get him out of it. We don't have many just really crafty players so when we do have one, we need to try to hone his skills, imo.

But seriously, Robbie Rogers? We have twelve midfielders on this roster. OMG we could have eleven and make most US Soccer fans happy by just inviting Charlie to camp. If he doesn't make it after that, I would be content. But dear god Rogers, Findley and, EJ get called up only to see beautiful Princeton, New Joisey. It's a terrible PR move.

Oh, and is anyone else just ecstatic about not Casey? My gosh if he was going to SA I was really thinking about stalking Bradley until he cut his arse.

Now I am. I can easily say that my initial reaction to the lack of Davies was more driven by the apparent inclusion of Casey (the first roster had him on it)

“Charlie has shown incredible heart and determination to reach this point in his recovery. We have followed his progress extensively during the past several months through physical examinations and personal observation by our staff, and he remained in consideration for this training camp until yesterday. FC Sochaux notified us that at this point Charlie has not been given medical clearance, and that they would not grant his full release to join the camp. Given that status and our own evaluation of his progress, we feel it is Charlie’s best interest to continue his rehabilitation and focus on getting fully prepared to resume his professional and international career.”

If by down moment, you mean "down three years" then I'll agree. He has done shite since he went to Europe. And he wasn't setting MLS on fire before he left. At least Kljestan and Rogers have been productive, if not successful in MLS.

No. "We" don't need to hone Freddy's skills. FREDDY needs to hone Freddy's skills.

Buddle and Gomez FORCED their way on to the team over the past six months. Dempsey FORCED his way onto the team back when. DeMerit FORCED his way onto the team. And although it's been years since he has been REALLY productive, Eddie Johnson put LOTS of goals on the board for club and country early in his US career. Fricking Cunningham and Casey EARNED their callups by scoring goals in bunches last year.

We don't owe Freddy shite. If he wants to earn it, he can. Other than some good showings in youth tournaments, I have never seen much more than a few stepovers.

Explain to me what Freddy has EVER done to be handed a call up for the WORLD CUP.

freddy gives what only 1 player on the roster gives: creativity

he needs to be around the USNT in 2010 for 2014

davies needs to be on this team also. he has a serious injury...let's see if he can do anything between now and the 23-man roster finalizing

If Freddy was kicking arse for his club team, ANY club team, I'd support his inclusion. PDL, USL, Australia, Vietnam, IDGAF. Anywhere.

But he isn't, and hasn't. Ever, really.

I wholly support "forcing" him to play for the US, beginning with the first friendly after the World Cup, like Feilhaber, Bradley and Bornstein were for this cycle.

But he doesn't need to be anywhere near South Africa.

Shown that he can play at a level that most of these guys can only dream of.

We just don't have anyone else like him.

b.s., b/c, again, he's a rare commodity in the U.S.
Look 4 years forward. Would we be better off with a Freddy Adu with World Cup experience or with a Johnny Bornstein, for example, with WC experience?

You have 30 spots, for goodness sake, and you left off two of your most talented players while bringing in numerous guys who reached their ceiling in the MLS. Sure, Charlie is hurt, but he can run and kick and he can sure as hell be a motivator. F Sochaux.

Yeah, Freddy should have been put in the camp just to get a taste of it for next time around.

i really don't believe this

i just don't think he ended up being fast enough of a player for wing and he's too small for mid

plus going to the MLS was stupid for his development

he won't be the first 5-6 kid who showed a lot of promise at 15 who didn't end up with the physical talent to be world class

I get what you're saying, I agree to an extent but I also disagree. If we ever want to become a power in soccer, or a team that has several different players with skill, we need Freddy Adu or a player like him (which there aren't many with his skills for the US, otherwise we wouldn't be talking about him so much).

It's a 2-way street. If you think we don't need Freddy Adu in 2014 you're crazy, and Freddy needs us even more. We alone don't need to hone his skills, obviously there is a lot on his shoulders, but it's one of those small things that would help give a young kid a little confidence. And when I say "down moment", yea 3 years isn't a moment, but it hasn't been all complete shite. He hasn't found a "niche'" for his style of play so he's still trying to figure it out. I don't think he should be in SA at the end of the day, but 30-man roster, I wouldn't mind. And when Freddy was playing in youth tourneys with Feilhaber and Bradley along with others, he was the best player on the field, imo. He made Brazil's youths look silly when we played them in the U-20 WC. Obviously he hasn't progressed as quickly as we expected or wanted, but he still has potential and skill.

This is strictly my opinion, and I completely understand why people don't like Adu or think he's a bust, etc...I just don't think he's done yet and I think the more he's around Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley, Jozy, etc...the more it'll benefit both parties.

I feel much worse about our chances after today, and I didn't feel good about them to begin with.

This. I get all of the criticism and lack of enthusiasm for Freddy, but in the end it's about beating teams like Brazil. Freddy showed he could play with those guys and look better than them.

Well clearly we're not favorites to win or even get very far, but we should still get out of the group stage then who knows in knockout stages. The knockout stages are so unpredictable you never know what can happen. A team can get hot and knock in a goal or 2 then the other team is just having an off day.

And before it's said, I understand it was the youth team. But half those Brazilians are being prepped for the next WC or the next. It's all about progressing, and I still think Freddy can progress in the right situation
