I think it would be interesting to see our U20 world cup team play that load of hot crap we saw represent the full national team tonight.

At least I have the U20 and women's national team to get excited about.

Also, I doubt there is a way anyone can convince me that we shouldn’t play Jozy and Sargent up top together.
What position are you willing to give up to use 2 strikers?

Give me Jozy with 2 wingers that he can feed and a good 10 behind him.

I think this match showed that there's still a place for Nagbe in this squad.

How many times did we fail to get out of our own half because of a shitty pass or just plain carelessness?

That was really embarrassing. I wish twellman or lalas did the game instead of the inherently positive Stubear. I feel like twellman and lalas would have been matching my level of melt & anger.

That performance even got Stu to eventually admit it wasn’t good enough.

The booing from the fans at the final whistle was cathartic AF.

He can play underneath or around Jozy.

Steffen
Yedlin Miazga Brooks (Insert DMB joke here)
Bradley
Pulisic Nagbe Weah
Sargent
Jozy

Essentially a 4-1-4-1 with Jozy up top and Sargent playing a floating role similar to Clint Dempsey. Freedom to go as far forward as he wants, and the same freedom to do as he did several times tonight to come back deep into the midfield to relieve pressure.

I know it’s our B squad but frick. Why can’t our B squad handle the small island of Jamaica? It’s sad that we need our A team to beat them. Most euro B squads or South American would have easily won the game.

There's a fairly sizeable gap between essentially the C team we used tonight and our A team.

the fact that Sargent played in this game/called into the provisional gold cup roster pisses me off.

he and Soto should be leading our front line in Poland. him playing any minutes with this heap of hot garbage is more likely to stunt his growth than anything else. frick. I don’t care if this is a C- team. what a pitiful effort

eta-

and before you bitch about positioning pville, play Soto as a shadow 10 and move Paxton back to the number 8 role, where he’s one of the top 3 at that position in our entire system already. he is, and will be an 8

The drop off is especially noticeable in the midfield. I think that’s where the “lost generation” hit us the hardest. When you look at our player pool ages 24-29, it’s pretty amazing how bad that crop of domestic-produced midfielders is. Once the Donovan-Dempsey-Beasley generation aged out, our midfield was pretty barren of talent.

Darlington Nagbe is the only one of that group to have even 25 caps, which is the same amount Pulisic has despite being way younger than any of those guys. Those bad development years hurt us everywhere, but especially in the midfield. It’s why right now 31 year-old Michael Bradley and three 20 year-olds are the four best midfielders we have.

Thankfully our youth teams seem to finally be producing good midfielders in recent years. Our three stellar 20 year-olds are hopefully just the start of what is to come for US Soccer.

Why is everyone trying to play our strikers out of position? Now you're keeping Mendez and Ledezma on the bench, both would be much better 10s than Soto.

Well, Nagbe didn't get his citizenship until 6 months before Pulisic's USMNT debut. Nagbe had his 1st call up in Nov 2015, Pulisic in Mar 2016.

I remember in the 90's when the U.S. came out with Project 2010. It's 2019 and look at the progress

I sometimes wonder what could have happened if we would have kept Bob Bradley and had a committed Donovan leading up to 2014. Maybe we could have beaten Belgium and gave Argentina a competitive game.

That's our C squad? Don't think so. Almost half that played that will likely see starts on the A squad - Steffan, Arriola, Trapp, Miazga, Gonzalez, and maybe others.

The rest that played, except for Sargent (should be B squad at least), Mihailovic, Robinson, and Yueill, are on the Gold Cup Roster. The team that played last night was mostly starters and subs, not a C squad.

The only players that started last night that are probable starters at their position on our full strength team are Steffen and Miazga. Everyone else is #2 at best. Guys like Mihailovic and Yueill are no better than #4. Sargent is probably our #3 striker in a formation that only uses one.

You just described a B squad with a few A's joining them.

I also said "at best". It was 2 from the A squad a few from the B, and the rest from the C or worse.

So you think we are bringing C squad players to the gold cup this year? If so, which ones ?
