I mean shite, look at twitter right now and see all of the love this dude is getting. It's coming from everyone, coaches, former players, USMNT teammates, young american players, etc.

To be fair, if anyone is capable of leading a mutiny if things go downhill, it's someone with this level of adoration. I'm not saying he would have done anything of the sort, but we all know that he and Jurgen never got on. It'd have been extremely easy if Landon were unhappy with his role in the team for him to turn everyone against Jurgen with a bad result. In the end, it was most likely a dick-wagging contest that Landon lost. It's not fair, but it happens in these situations.

I agree. Donovan had no business being on the team after the sabbatical. That said, it was pretty shitty of Jurgen to call him back in for the Gold Cup and most important WCQ's (which he was the best player in) only to turn the knife on him.

What about Jurgen's remarks that were in stark contrast to what everyone else was saying about Donovan?

I don't think either one said anything wrong in that video.

Just like I don't think Donovan said anything wrong in his press conference.

I think that we see that clip much differently. It sounds to me like Jurgen made it clear what Landon needed to do, and he's openly admitting that he can't do it. He says that he just can't be consistent. Say what you want about Brad Davis, but that man is consistently sub-par. LD just needed to put in a Brad Davis level of work ethic in.

Here's something from Bob Ley

quote:

What I'll remember about Landon Donovan, more than the goals and the on-field moments, is a cold night in Newtown, CT, just 4 weeks after hell visited that small town. The first town wide event for kids was a "Soccer Night in Newtown", organized by Houston's Chis Canetti, and many of the game's stars flew in. In Landon's case, that meant clear across the country. And, with many of the other names of the beautiful game, he spent 4 or 5 hours there - patiently visiting with kids, signing every autograph, posing for each picture, answering every question - down to - 'what's your favorite pizza', and, 'what super hero powers do you want'? There were media members on hand that night, but they respectfully kept their distance from these moments and conversations. Countless youngsters had a few moments of fun, a smile, a picture, a good memory, after several weeks of a cruel reality beyond comprehension. This was just several weeks before Landon's fabled 'hiatus' from the game, including the time in Cambodia. On this cold New England night, he was - with many of his colleagues in the game - the Man of the Match - for something bigger than the game.

Who hit the reset button on the SB? I thought this shite would go away post-WC.

We need a LegenD board, apparently.

So we can't talk about the GOAT USMNT player on the day he announced his retirement?

It's not that. It's the annoying rehashed argument after his exclusion from the roster. This topic would be better served with stories about his career both in the MLS, with the USMNT, and abroad. Maybe include gifs and videos of some of his best goals and moments. Instead it's just more of the same that made this board unbearable for about a week in May.

You're the leader of the LD pain train, though. So choo choo on brother.

ETA: For instance, the Bob Ley bit you posted. That's cool. More of that, please. Less bitching. And this is directed to the uber-Jurgen supporters too.

I know this was an attempt at insulting me, but I wear that description with honor.

Thanks, champ.

It's only an insult if you take it as such.

THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT JURGEN SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN LD TO BRAZIL. PERSONALLY, I WAS INDIFFERENT TO THE DECISION.

If LD had played in all of the games leading up to the WC and every game in the WC, he would be 1 cap short of tying Cobi Jones for having the most USMNT caps.

Cobi Jones will always eclipse Donovan's hair talent. Checkmate, atheists.

Landon's 59 assists fot the USMNT is more than the next three assist leaders COMBINED.

For the record, I don't think for a minute that Landon would have done anything like that.
The "chemistry" stuff I was talking about hinged on who Donovan was, his relationship with the coach, his legend status, etc.
Again, not trying to argue that's right, just saying I don't think it's fair to say that Landon might have led some rebellion against Jurgen (even though Landon has passive aggressively attacked Jurgen ever since being left off).

It was positive until the same fricks who always stand by their stupid cases ruin every LD thread.
