Nobody. It's silly to even question that he's by far the biggest thing ever in American soccer. And he has been every bit as good as you guys say.

It was a legit question, why can't you answer it seriously?

I was being serious. I have always been a fan of his. Can't really be a fan of US soccer and not be.

I tried but it seems like its a moot point. The sport is 100 years old in this country. I never said anything negative about Landon and the accolades he has earned and respect and admiration for what he has done for the sport here but I also wont disrespect others like Lamar Hunt who have done incredible amount to help grow the sport as well.

Hell, TV coverage has played a significant part in the growth of the sport as well.

Try to read what I said for what is being said instead of trying to find the perceived slight or attack against Donovan, because there isnt one coming from me.

So Lamar Hunt is your answer?

Anyone else?

That's because y'all never gave me a fair shake and labeled me a Landon hater/Jurgen fanboy instead of giving me the benefit of the doubt that I was trying to see both sides.

So are we talking about just USMNT soccer? Are we talking about the sport as whole in the country? The MLS?

Im not sure what you are asking.

The first WC I watched was the 86 Mexico cup on spanish only feeds satellite while spending the summer at my cousins. Since then I think the single biggest boost to US soccer was the 94 WC hosted here in the US followed by Lamar Hunt's commitment to building a viable domestic league afterwards. Not even going to go into the many great college coaches through the years that helped grow the sport at a grass roots level.

It is puzzling that Jurgen's people that handle his twitter haven't tweeted anything.

this will sound bad, especially after sucking landon's dick in this thread and every time his name is mentioned, but howard retiring honestly won't do too much to me. i've never been worried about the goalkeeper position with the USMNT and i liked both friedel and keller more than i like howard, which is still a lot.

he's certainly fantastic, but just one of many fantastic american keepers.

frick this makes me sad. Nobody has done more for soccer in America, and we all should have had the chance to see him go out in Brazil with a USA jersey on.

But it's just like how Pep should've shook Porter's hand last night. You may not like it, but you still should do it because it only would make things better.

Didn't have a fair shake? It was debated constantly for like a month. You were more or less shitting on him unless I misread hundreds of your posts.

The casty? But I was serious about the Landon praise. If all of our players had his stones, we'd be better off. The way he never cowered in international play makes me wonder why he didn't succeed in Germany.

I don't think it is.

Regardless of what you guys may thing, I agree that he's on another level in terms of what he's done for US Soccer and MLS. He's the best outfield player we've ever produced, and he's been outstanding for his country.

It's like trying to argue which other legend is better than Jordan. Bird and Magic had one of the most epic rivalries in sports, and yet, they didn't come close to matching what Jordan did for the league. It transcends the game and results.

Like Jordan, he's unquestionable because of what he means to people here, and that's fine. It's just that some people, including fans from the start of his career, are going to be critical. That's not an attack on him. It's natural.

A lot of stuff was said. I generally remember it as a time when one contingent blamed it all on the coach and the other said Landon shared some of the blame.
Looking back I really wish the relationship hadn't gone south, regardless of who is to blame. We could have used him in Brazil.
