re: Tottenham Hotspur 2022/23 Season Long Thread: No Europe = Burn It All Down

Part of the problem I see is when we play out of the back, forwards are pulling out and running up field looking for the long pass instead of coming back to fill the spaces for our deep midfielders to play the ball forward. I saw this several times today and I get it when we are breaking but not every possession can be that. It’s forcing our midfielders to constantly look to play the ball back because their only other option forward is a long ball.
Edited to say that Son is guilty more often than not. Kulu will come back but then has no option and often gets trapped on the touch line. It’s how Chelsea scored their 2nd goal, albeit by fouling Kulu to gain possession.

Yeah it’s certainly not pretty to watch, but hard to argue the results. Just one loss out of 15 or so, going back to last season. I just hate living in our end for entire matches. It’s not good for my health. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Alright boys, what are we doing with Son? Do we start Richarlison over him, or just trust Son will snap out of it. It’s not like he’s unaware of his slump.

You keep starting the golden boot winner at least till the WC break and let him work through it.

Lot of midweek games coming up. Plenty of time for both.
Need to think of it in terms of being rotated instead of being dropped.

I will melt if we end up signing Dan James after all of this. I’d rather just keep Gil ffs.

XI vs West Ham:
Lloris, Royal, Sanchez, Dier, Davies, Perisic, Bissouma, Hojbjerg, Son, Kane, Kulusevski
Bench: Forster, Lenglet, Tanganga, Spence Sessegnon, Doherty, Skipp, Sarr, Richarlison
Pumped to see Skipp back in the squad. Was hoping Romero would be back as well though.

Is this game on Tv anywhere?
I found it. Seems like I scrolled for a bit before I saw it.

Frustrating last 15min of start-stop play. Sucks to draw that one. First blah result of the season.

Worst I’ve seen us play in 10 matches or so. Just tired of the absolutely nonexistent link up play. Has to be a better way to move the ball forward other than Sanchez to Royal to Sanchez to loris to Sanchez to dier to Royal. It’s heading towards Nuno territory for long stretches.
And it’s time to roll with Richarlison. He deserves to be out there a full 90 as he’s our best player most of the time he’s out there. I love Son and he will figure it out but let him do that coming on in the 70th for now. It’s a long season and he will get his place back eventually but right now Richarlison is the hot hand and you have to take the points he can get you.

IMO Fulham will be a great game for Sonny to take a break and let Richarlison get some starting time
Then see how he does in the 1st CL match vs Marseille

Worst game we have played all season, but not then end of the world to walk away with 1 pt. I still think this team has improved during this transfer window, but it’s shocking to me that we have not upgraded Sanchez or Emerson. Sanchez has actually been good defensively, but he has almost 0 ability on the ball and teams know it. West Ham basically forced us to the right side and then immediately pressed Sanchez and Emerson with the result either being an immediate turn over or Sanchez booting it long and giving up possession. If we’re gonna insist on playing out from the back so much we can’t have a Sanchez/Emerson right side together.
Bissouma put himself in a terrible position with the yellow and it had a big impact on the way he played the rest of the game. I still think he will settle in.
Perisic looked great today and has been getting better with each start.
Hopefully Romero and Bentancur are ready for Fulham. I have a feeling Richarlison and Lenglet will get starts.

Son’s lack of quality play is glaringly obvious at the moment. His exuberance, confidence, work rate affects all others around him. If he gets going, we get into the 5th gear. Kane provides the leadership for the team, but Son provides the joy that’s infectious and the adhesive to acting like a team.

Have we not gotten anyone? Feel like all our bids and negotiations have fallen through these last few weeks. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbanghead.gif)

Spurs signed nine players this window. We're just not used to them getting their business done early in the window.

Romero, Sessegnon, Richarlison are the noticeable starters today.
ETA Bencantur as well

Very interesting lineup. Hoping Son gets one today.

Mitrovich on Lenglet has me feeling not great.

Praying for Sonny.
Difficult shot but we know how much he needs a goal.
Sad he got one pulled back before.
