Agreed on the lineup choices, Bentaleb shouldn't have been in there.
Easy to say now, but if Dier and Mason/Dembele had started in the middle of the field, people would be pissed. Dier was the questionable choice.

It was really a joke about Bentaleb. But I still don't like him. I think Dier did fine in the defensive mid. Dembele was the most questionable of decisions....but I really don't think any of the lineup choices put us at a disadvantage or led to the loss. Not really sure why the lineup is being brought up.

My problem is that with Dembele on the wing he provides no width and is slow on the ball.
Also he had 2 chances to deliver a ball into the box but because his right foot is too weak he sent easy lobs that the keeper grabbed.
We had no pace or someone to stretch the defense.

whats up with Lamela and Townsend?
Posted on 8/8/15 at 9:31 am to TFTC
Lamela isn't really a threat with pace, however he's very creative and comfortable going forward. He'll play one touch football and attempt incisive passes unlike dembele.
I have no idea where Townsend was, this game was screaming for him

Maybe, but I really don't think Lamela gives you much more on the wing and Townsend just runs and shoots. The announcer had a good point about Dembele and how Utd torched us on the right side last season. I have no problem with Poch making a conscious decision to shore up defensively. Charlie was pretty nonexistent for most of the match. And, after the OG, we seemed to just shut down. That's a problem mentally that needs to be fixed. We needed to stay attack and press minded and we kind of just stopped any of that.

Yeah. A 1-0 loss to a Top 4 club on the road isn't going to ruin our season. A loss to a relegation club at home is how we do that.
Also, Dier.

Also, Dier.

I will respectfully disagree.
I believe last year Poch has really started to change the mindsets of the guys. Just think back to our Chelsea and scum victories last year. Both games we went down early to rather lame goals and fought back.
Yeah the OG took some steam away initially but in the 2nd half we were pressing very well and winning the ball back high up the pitch, which led to some chances that we didn't take very well.
I distinctly remember last seasons opener and how we weren't playing poch's pressing game, today at times it looked very good.

I love the fire that Dier plays with. No rhyme intended.
The guy plays at one speed, just look at the mls all star game and Audi cup friendliest, he was flying into tackles

I'm glad that we have some great personalities on the team now. After Bale left, it just seemed like a bunch of players out there. At one point, I remember thinking that Kyle Walker was the only player who gave a frick.
Posted on 8/8/15 at 9:49 am to SwaggerCopter
Agreed with that. After Bale we didn't have an identity on the pitch. That has changed night and day. Poch has this team lean and mean.
Also, to add to our bad luck on the day, that chance that Eriksen had early from the scoop pass from Kane, I think he makes that 7/10 times, ball just didn't fall our way today. Like someone said above, a loss on the road to Man U by 1 OG doesn't make or break seasons. Losing to Stoke twice etc.. is what keeps you out of top 4.

There is that American fella
Posted on 8/8/15 at 2:38 pm to cwil177
And what a good media signing he has been, the Americans can't shut up about him.
So word through the grapevine is Berahino and Njie are in, while Ade and Townsend are out.
Other rumors are that we are in for Sven Bender and Christoph Kramer (oh please please please be true!!!!!!!).
Out of all of these rumors, Kramer would be the only realistic one to come in and start right away I think. However, I think our major issue is depth. This should be fixed soon.

Let's all laugh at Arsenal for dropping 3 points at home to West Ham.

I didn't watch the game but it is well known that (with Pritch, Oduwa, and Shaq all likely to make the jump up next) CCV is next in line. Will expect som senior play from him this year honestly.
Posted on 8/10/15 at 9:13 pm to CapitalCityDevil
CCV is going to be ridiculously good. As a staple for the USMNT, he will bring tons of Americans to Spurs.

So I rewatched the game because I am a loser, and from what I saw at second glance:
GK and Defenders:
Michele Vorm played a decent game: his distribution was acceptable, his position was good, and his direction of the back line was good.
Jan was a bit sloppy: almost the same, though I would say a bit improved, Vert from the end of last season. His form should improve.
Toby was great: always in a good position, made great passes, switched the play well, and got his head on every ball near him.
Davies is acceptable in the first team: was solid as a defender, rarely in a bad position, and made good overlapping runs.
Walker was brilliant: absolute, pure class. He was fast, controlled, and smart all game long.
