Fast forward to the weekend of Sept. 12. Is Kepa in goal for match #1?

If not, who are the likely candidates to man the position? If pressed to give an answer right now, I would say either Kepa or Willy. Surely Frank isn't ready to give Jamie the keys, right?

Given his salary and recent performance level, who would realistically take on Kepa? And as far as bringing in someone, I keep hearing that Oblak is a possibility. Well United appears to want him also, so that may not be a viable ($$$) option.

no one. best hope is for a subsidized loan and that Kepa has a good season out so someone will buy him next year.

Theres zero chance Kepa is #1 next season. it would be a Karius-level toxic situation if he continues to under perform and thats not good for anybody.

Oblak's release clause is over 100m, dont see chelsea or united touching that. plus United have Dean Henderson waiting in the wings. then again, i thought chelsea had no shot at Werner and wouldnt pony up for a serious play at Havertz, so who knows.

There's no way. In the same week, Chelsea was trying to secure a spot in the FA Cup final and needed to get a result in a league match to qualify for Champions League. Kepa was on the bench for both matches. If that doesn't tell you where he stands, I don't know what does.

Oh well. We'd better sign Havertz and hope that the "new and improved" attack can score a ton of goals --- regularly. Next year's projected back line and goalie grouping look to be an absolute sieve.

its nearly impossible for it to be worse, so im pretty confident the defensive numbers will improve.

One year later with the same players, Lampard had us as the worst defense in the top half of the table.

this isnt really accurate. Rudiger and Kante were only fit for about half of this season, and Tomori/Zouma werent even in the squad last year. Luiz and Rudiger were flawed, but had a decent little partnership going in between the brain farts.

I do agree that Frank was a lot more aggressive and exposed the defense to a much larger degree than we saw last year, so overall im with you.

Does Guehi get a look? He was excellent at Swansea this season.

Guehi

I would think so. Pretty sure he got some first team mins this season before his loan, but i could be thinking of preseason.

I hope its a total battle royale this summer between every center back weve got. Let them fight.

Are we just going to let City have Ake? I’d spend the 40M just to keep him from landing there.

We HAVE to do something at CB. The fact that we are spending elsewhere like we are leads me to believe Roman has asked Marina to hold his beer.

Always liked Ake, hated to see him force his way out like he did. I think at that time it was either him or Christensen as both were wanting guarantees.

Was doing some reading and stumbled across this

quote:

LINK

Between June 2011 and January 2014, Chelsea brought in Thibaut Courtois, Romelu Lukaku, De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Oscar, Cesar Azpilicueta, Christensen and Salah, each before his 23rd birthday, and Juan Mata three months after his.

Nor did the astute business end there. Other fine buys arrived further into their career; Gary Cahill, Nemanja Matic and Willian, to name but three.

Nearly all came in Michael Emenalo’s time as technical director, which should offer a neat rebuttal to the traditionalist notion that managers need complete control in the transfer market.

As a club, Chelsea constructed what could have been runaway league was leaders now; perhaps even England’s team of the decade.

I kind of forgot, wanted to forget, made myself forget the past development mistakes

It is sadly funny now, damn what could have been

Thank God we are turning it around

A lot of the players on this team could very well end up on a similar list in the future, many will not. We just signed two though, and rumors of a third. I think all three of them are list material. Christian is wrecking shite and tammy Mount James Gilmour and Cho all have massive potential. Ampadu cut his hair so I’m not sure anymore.

ive always wondered if the club kinda had to choose one or the other after KdBs GF revenge banged Courtois. not sure if she could have picked two more gooberish looking dudes.

jokes ultimately on us since both are world class and enjoying their primes elsewhere.
