I watch 100% of the matches on my couch or at my desk at work. Obviously that will change next summer when I go to see them in person, but what does it really matter?
shite I care about:
-Watching a fun team
-Liking the players on the team
-Trophies
-How many people are watching the game in person.
Manchester is a United town. No denying that. We were shite for ages and have only been topflight for 12 years. The other big players in the league have been there since 89 the the earliest.
I love my team. I'm proud of what they have done. What else really matters?

Part of loving the club is loving the actual club. Not just the 11 players on the pitch.
And SCH is right. You'll get your shot to make the trip and it will be an experience you'll never forget (unless you're headed to a half empty stadium).

I'm due for a sabbatical next year... I want to sublease a flat in Liverpool City Centre for a couple of months and go to as many home and away matches as possible...

You should love the club, not the team. I guess its an American thing. There's so much more to being a fan than what happens out on the field. If you don't love all of it you're cutting yourself short.

shite just being there is good enough for me to see United. I went vs Villa and was lucky enough we won #20 that night for a trip I booked months in advance.

Its everything all together. The club as a whole. The community itself. Falling in love with love itself is so much greater than falling in love with winning. If that makes sense at all.

I'm sure you could and I'm sure it would. However, it is something I'll likely never experience outside of my trip next year. If I lived in a more soccer friendly place (for me it would be NOLA, Dallas, or maybe BR), I'm sure it would be great. I don't though so....

I'm sure it's not exactly the same, but the qualities you're talking about are definitely in college football, especially in the South. Tradition. Community. Passion. Being more than just a team you follow.

but we went 4-8 last year and still brought 28k fans to ATL on Saturday. Not bad for a state school in a state with less than 2 million people.
