I don't think its that big of a stretch to say they had top 4 in talent.. I mean lets assume that Chelsea and united had more talent. Liverpool and arsenal prbly had similar talent levels.. who after that? tottenham? City hadn't had their cash infusion yet. Everton was content on being 6th in the league every year.

07 arsenal were quarterfinals of the champions league. had a very talented team. Rvp, hleb, sagna, toure, abebayor, clichy, fabregas, gallas, denilson, flamini, gilberto, gibbs, bednter, song, eboue, rosicky, And im sure I overlooked some body or two

08 quarterfinals of CL: hleb to barca, gilberto to turket, flamini to Milan. add nasri, ramsey, wilsire, arshavin, Eduardo (from injury)

09 quarters out toure and abebayor. in vermealen

This also is when city started buying heavy. This is the only argument I think you would have that they aren't easily top 4. but at the same time I would compare them to a Liverpool lineup and prbly say that arsenal was more talented

10 CL round of 16: in: chamakh, kosceilny, squillaci. out gallas, Eduardo,

the do more with nothing narrative has always been overblown with arsenal as well as we just sell and never buy atleast during this period. what other teams besides Liverpool, united, arsenal and Chelsea had champions league talent before city? I watched them plenty then as some of my best friends were arsenal fans. the talent levels weren't far off plus after top 4 the talent level of the PL really dropped off

I am not totally abreast of the United situation but come the hell on. We've missed our 2 best players for the majority of the season.

but your squad hasn't got to the point you are playing pretty much an U-21 team

If you did you would be fricked

bc you never give them a chance anyway.

Ajax, Bayern, Barcelona have went on to be extremely succesful after LvG's tenure. Largely in part to the foundation he set and youth he promoted while was at those clubs.

These three clubs in particular were successful before LVG came aboard. He is definitely responsible for that amazing 1995 Ajax team, but that 1997 Barca team was built by Robson, who is the legend there and has more to do with the success of Barca than LVG. He built an amazing squad with Bayern, but he could never have taken them to the levels that Jupp Heynckes did. AZ Alkmaar hasn't reached those heights.

Then why was it that nearly every pundit between 06 and 12 had Arsenal fall out of the top four?

The 2007 team was more talented, but some of those teams were god awful. I can't believe you listed Denilson, Eboue, and Bendnter. Those players were useful but not top four quality.

Chamakh was awful, as was Squillaci. TV5 destroyed our defensive shape by being a fricking idiot way too often. I'm finding it hard to believe you are listing these players seriously. Or that you watched the teams from that era.

There were Arsenal teams in that era that had Bendtner, Squillaci, Denilson and Djorou on the field at one time. For a while only Fabregas, a healthy Van Persie and Sagna were top 4 quality. Wilshere and Ramsey were too young and for fricks sake look at the keeper situation. That alone should have kept us out of the top 4.

I'm just glad I didn't say anything too outrageous in here.
