College soccer has actually held the men's game back.
If knew anything about the sport you would know this.
Our players don't need to be playing college ball while guys the same age are full on pros.

Umm, guess again. And for those of you making this argument, the majority of the USWNT played college soccer. And they've now one three Women's World Cups.
All I'm saying is, in order to raise the level of men's soccer in the USA, you absolutely need to raise the number of high school programs. And the absolute best way to raise the number of high school programs is to raise the number of college programs.
It's not rocket science...

College soccer would be the driving force behind the increasing the level of participation in soccer at all age levels for men.
When students in this country realize that soccer can lead to a free ride at the college of their choice, that's when men's soccer takes off in this county.
Not before.

I would argue that high school and college soccer are a big part of our problem. The whole model in this country is really built around getting little Johnny a college scholarship... not developing world class professionals.
In fact, my fear on the women's side is that eventually the Germans, Spanish, etc will start applying their development model for male soccer players to their women's clubs... if that happens, the high school + pay-to-play travel team -> college soccer -> pro soccer model will be as much a weakness for the USWNT as it is for the USMNT.
