Top 3 is a tall order. I would say definitely top 10 though.

By every stat, metric, eye test, whatever, Howard is having one of the best years of his career.

If he's not top 3, fine, but how can you type "hasn't been very good this year at all" with a straight face.

Have you seen some of the goals he has allowed, especially toward the beginning of the season? Not his best year as a shot-stopper, even though a simple stat line would say otherwise.

ETA: now it's not.

Na. He's good though.

No specific order:

Valdez (he might not count cuz of injury)
Neuer
Diego Lopez
De Gea
Szcz
Enyeama
Courtois
And a few others that aren't coming to mind

Petr Cech
Manuel Neuer
Thibaut Courtois
Gigi Buffon
Victor Valdes
Wilfred Caballero
Maarten Steclenburg
Morgan De Sanctis
Joe Hart
Asmir Begovich

That's my top 10. I love Timmy but he's not as good as any of the above in my opinion. I'm probably forgetting a few too.

I really have no idea where some of the people posting in this thread get their info. We must be watching different games and listening to different people talk about Howard.

As an Evertonian, I have watched just about all of their matches this season. He has played with excellent form. In just about every single match I have watched the Brit commentators laud Howard and consistently talk about how he is having one of the best years for a keeper in the BPL this year.

Like I said, we must be watching different matches and listening to different people talk about those matches.

that's the thing about goalkeeping stats...i don't think clean sheets are particularly relevant to assessing GK performance once you get into the "good" GK range. saves are tough because they're all different.

szczesny has better saves, saves per match, same clean sheet, and i believe a better save percentage, though i'm not positive the stat i saw is up to date.

What I'm confused about is how someone could so easily come to even ask the question, Is Tim Howard currently a top 3 GK IN THE WORLD?

What kind of insane bullshite is this? Just because he's a very good American we immediately have to bump him up far beyond where he belongs. Literally no one else in the world other than Americans would think Howard was even in the race for a top ten GK spot. Howard is very good on a team that allows him to excel at shot-stopping, but he's no better than Friedal was for a decade in the EPL, and no one thought he was a top ten GK in the world, ever.

I'm just confused as how people are coming to this conclusion, especially considering who EPL-centric this board is.
