The true problem
Our development sucks.
We care too much about college sports.

But Rome wasn’t built in a day, US academies are fairly new

He was also much younger. Being 3 weeks from 32 years old is playing a big role.

That’s true too, but his productivity has decreased great since he came back

You all are absolutely smoking crack if you think that list i provided, given the same training as our current players from the age of 5, wouldn't smoke the ever living frick out of them? Who on our current team would keep up with Kylar Murray? Who on our current team would keep with Antonio Brown or Odell Beckham? NONE! Some of you need your dam heads examined.

I've always wondered if Landon Donovan was developed at La Masia during his youth while Andres Iniesta grew up being trained at the U.S. Youth Soccer Development Program that their career paths might have been switched.

I don’t think Landon is a very good player to use in that comparison, as he is someone who, if he didn’t completely max out his potential, he came very close to it.

The U.S. is behind on soccer because most of the U.S. doesn’t care enough about soccer.
That’s it.
Culturally, it’s just not important enough to create the conditions which produce the results you see in South America, Europe, and even Mexico.

It’s not that our “best” athletes don’t play soccer, it’s that relatively few athletes of any caliber focus on soccer, because their parents, friends, neighborhoods, towns, recreational leagues, high schools, etc don’t focus on it.

US Soccer, MLS, local and regional soccer organizations are all trying to artificially create the cultural conditions which will create the pressure needed to produce enough elite players to consistently have a formidable national team, but it’s an uphill battle.

Comparing it to the women’s game is just wrong, because the rest of the world doesn’t have a head start on the U.S. when it comes to caring about women’s soccer.

If athletic ability is all it takes, then Haji Wright should be an automatic starter for us.

LOL move the goalposts much! Your first post said they would dominate the world... now you are saying better then our current team.

Yes, all else equal, exact same training (ignoring reality) - yes better athletes likely leads to better players.

But dominate the world - with the same training and coaching our players have had? That is where you frick up.

But by all means, continue to move the goal posts.

Not at all, my point is that our CURRENT team isn't our BEST athletes. IF we had our best athletes playing, i 100% believe we would be winning World Cups.

Kyler Murray
Odell Beckham
