Flopping sucks no matter the sport, but the harshness of the penalty for the offending player that made the flopper grab his face in agonizing pain is more severe in soccer.
It could result in a yellow card and a penalty kick. We all know how much more a goal in soccer counts as opposed to basketball where a flop that is perceived to be a foul may get the flopper a shot at a 1 and 1 (or two at the worst) at the line.

Lets see if I can build consensus:
1) Fack basketball.
2) Who cares what those who dont like soccer think about it.
3) Those of us who love the game want the drama stamped out; not to appease those who do not appreciate the beautful game (who cares about them), but for the benefit of those of us who do care and love the game.
How about that? Everyone cool?

that's a condensed version of my opinion

no, basketball's a beautiful game too. The flopping has nowhere near the impact that it does in soccer tho.

yes. I've always loved watching world cup and some mls, but it's getting really bad.

I meant fack basketball in relation to the relevance of this question

Honest question: Is there even a ball rolling for this to happen? Or is it just a pipe dream?
I normally play soccer every other sunday and im loving the WC. But similiar to the OP, I have a hard time watching soccer on a regular basis because of the acting. I love the game, just find it very frustrating to watch at times.

Take a mild forearm to the shoulder/neck? Go to the ground grabbing your face and get the 'offender' ejected from the game
this is pretty sad, but all that reminded me of was this:
adriano and marco caneira
of course, marco caneira had a reason to grab his face
(clip at the end is one of zinedine zidane's other moments)

That dude got double punched in the neck/jaw and covers up his face like he got hit with a frying pan. After that girly arse slap he gave the other guy, he deserved it out of principle. You can't fricking go down like a pussy like that. take it like an athlete(IF thats what you claim to be) and hit back.

People in this thread keep saying its 'getting' bad but the fact is it has always been this bad. The fact is TV coverage has become far more granular than past events and we're able to see more, DVR it, analyze it and then have sportscenter rerun the same clip over and over until we're blue in the face. Better TV coverage = more scrutiny which is exposing some of the drama that's existed as long as soccer has.

Yes, but it's going to take some time.
