The Lost Generation-2018 World Cup Qualifying Roster

Which players will have their legacies most associated with 2018’s failures? There was an entire group of significant players who pretty much haven’t featured since that terrible day in Trinidad.
The guys whose legacies I most associate with that cycle are Geoff Cameron, Fabian Johnson, Tim Chandler, Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, Brad Guzan, Alejandro Bedoya, Bobby Wood, and Graham Zusi. Who am I missing?
I did not put Tim Howard or Clint Dempsey in this list because they’ve done so much more. Jermaine Jones was mostly through for the entire qualifying cycle. Christian Pulisic is obviously associated but has many years of playing to continue to improve his legacy.
Jozy and Bradley are obviously included but did a lot beforehand, and 2018 will not be the first thing people remember about them. The may also be the elder statesmen for 2022.
Then you have the guys who are bit players or omitted because they failed to develop (or just weren’t called up much in the case of Nagbe and Williams): Jorge Villafana, Ventura Alvarado, Jose Francisco Torres, Danny Williams, Darlington Nagbe, Luis Gil, Julian Green, and maybe Kellyn Acosta.
Is this a fair division of the players? Am I missing someone prominent? I probably am because I’m doing this off the top of my head.

If you're asking about "Lost Generation" players, then you're looking at guys like Agudelo, Corona, Mix, Shea, Opara, Adu, etc.
Guys like Green and Acosta were still only ~22. I wouldn't really associate them with that cycle.

Guys like Besler and Zusi were on the wrong side of 30 and were big parts of previous World Cups.

I put a ton of blame on Bradley and Jozy and Howard.
Obviously, they’ve done more, and are not part of the lost generation, but I blame them more than any other players.

I still want to see what Julian Green can do in our starting XI.
Also interested to see where Chandler would fall after his recent “resurgence”.

While I will remember other moments from jozy and bradley, 20 years from now I will definitely still associate one of the biggest frickups in USMNT history with them. Especially bradley. What I’ll probably remember most about jozy is that he was always hurt and could never be relied on.

I hold the incompetent coaches liable, as well as the general dearth of talent. We didn’t have a Donovan replacement, no game changing players, and our defense was a joke. I’m not sure why people want to blame Bradley to be honest. He scored our best goal of qualifying against Mexico. It’s not his fault that Bruce played him on a soggy field as a lone defensive midfielder, after his legs had gone. If anything y’all should blame Nagbe and Villafana for not closing down the players who scored and sent in the cross that Gonzalez fricked up.

Green still has a chance to make an impact.

I think there is just too much talent ahead of Green right now.
The current Julian green would have found a place on teams from 2006 to 2014 though imo.
One guy I accidentally left off was Aron Johannassen who was just constantly injured for a 4 year stretch once he left AZ.

Gotta keep your Green USMNT Jersey relevant
But for real I think he deserves a look.

To be fair, everyone on that list except for Wood made the 2014 World Cup roster.

Yup, Jurgen throwing up a 3-5-2 (something the team never practiced that camp) for the first Mexico match was shocking, even by his goofy arse standards.
Bruce putting the exact same XI out for T&T just three days after Panama was insane as well.
Everything about that cycle, starting with the 2015 Gold Cup just felt like a sinking ship.
Yeah, there were some bright spots like Pulisic's rise, like the Copa Centanario and the 17 Gold Cup, but even those two tournaments felt tainted with it being the B-Squad GC and the humiliation against Argentina.

Oh Absolutely. I don’t JUST blame bradley. I blame damn near everyone involved in the frickup except for kid pulisic, but Bradley was the captain, you better believe I blame him too. That squad had more than enough talent to get the job done, even if the coaching set them up to fail, and they went out like bitches. They were soft as frick.

Sure Bradley deserves blame for wearing the armband, but he was also our second best player that cycle behind Pulisic.
There was a long list of guys who didn't seem to give a shite that cycle, but Bradley wasn't one of them.
ETA: Also, don't forget that Bradley was only given the armband after Clint had it stripped from him because of his incident with the ref in the Open Cup. Bradley has also, in the time since, still been a valuable veteran presence for this young group despite Gregg going with this rotating armband thing.
I just think Bradley gets a shite ton more hate than he deserves when he has been great more for the USMNT more times than he has been bad.

Although Fabs was our 2nd best outfield player in 2014, his legacy is probably about being more of a flake tho with his holier than thou shite he pulled in the 2018 cycle.
Cameron is only attached to this failure in my mind as just another one of Arenas mistakes. The fact he didn't see the field in our most crucial games is mind boggling.
