The FK spray used in MLS to be used at Club World Cup

FIFA has confirmed it is to allow referees to use vanishing spray to mark out the distance for defensive walls at the Club World Cup next month.
The spray allows officials to paint a white line on the field that marks out the minimum 10-yard (9.15 metres) distance opposition players are required to stand from a free kick. The line disappears after one minute.

I guess I have never really paid attention to the dimensions in soccer, but it never occurred to me that they are all based on imperial units instead of metric.

I still don't understand why this isn't done in all of soccer. It's such a simple, useful product. I'd say the average distance for the wall when a ball is kicked is like 7 feet in the EPL. It's ridiculous.

Because it's stupid looking. People I've talked to over here about the MLS have said that they won't watch it because of "that moronic spray."

The spray is used in just about every American League. Mexican, Brazilian, Argentine. The Central and South Americans were using it years before the MLS adopted it.

Then they are retarded.

There are plenty of reasons to avoid watching the MLS, but if I knew someone that did it exclusively because of FK spray, I would probably cease all contact with said person.

That's a pretty moronic reason not to watch MLS.

The way I see it, you have 3 options.
1. Stay the same and continue not policing the rule and enforcing it the way it should be.
2. Enforce the rule by continually stopping play to move the wall back.
3. Use the spray.
The spray is the simplest way to enforce the rule.

Call me crazy but this is often the more humorous, hence more entertaining, option.

And to think that some say Europeans are smarter than us.

it's about time
Mexican league was the first i noticed use this. it stops all of the bullshite you have. the EPL teams are the frickin worst about crying and making every free kick take 5 minutes or more(so it seems).
U lay the line, they get their arses behind it, and take the kick. None of this keep pushing them back, and back, and then back!

Theres also no reason not to have a 10 yard semi circle around the corner flag to stop the same thing happening at corners.

There are lines marking 10yds on corners already.
